ESO Fellowship Programme: Application guidelines

To apply for the ESO Fellowship, you must first register using the on-line service available at the ESO recruitment portal. We encourage applicants to register to the on-line service well before the application deadline as this will allow to immediately trigger the request for the letters of support.

Candidates are asked to create a PDF using the ESO Fellowship Application Form. 

The form is available as Word, LibreOffice and Latex template, make sure you download the latest version (2023). Please note that the instructions and guide-lines on how to compile the ESO Fellowship Application are included in grey in the different formats of the form. In case of any question/request realted to the application form please send an email using one of the emails available on the contact page

In summary, candidates are asked to include the following material as part of their application:

  • a cover/motivation letter;
  • the application form in PDF format filled in all the relevant parts;
  • the names and contact details of three persons familiar with your scientific work and willing to provide a recommendation letter. Referees will be automatically invited to submit a recommendation letter. However, applicants are strongly advised to trigger these invitations (using the web application form) well in advance of the application deadline.

 

Recruitment preference will be given to nationals of ESO-member countries as well as Australia and Chile.

The application deadline is 15 October.
