Modelling the spectra of brown dwarfs and planets -- Theodora Karalidi

In the 25 years since the discovery of the first exoplanet and brown dwarf, our atmospheric models have developed considerably. We are in the era where developments in atmospheric models are data driven. Here I will give an overview of the intricacies of modeling brown dwarf and exoplanet spectra and how observations have informed our models. I will discuss why these updates in our models are crucial for our understanding of these atmospheres, and how processes like disequilibrium chemistry leave observable changes on spectra. Finally, I will discuss how high-resolution model spectra will help us constrain the 3D structure of brown dwarf and exoplanet atmospheres.
