The workshop is organized by the European Southern Observatory and the Universitaets-Sternwarte Muenchen and will be hosted by the Venice International University, singularly located on an island in the Lagoon in close sight of Venice.

The program will start with a review of current techniques to measure the baryonic (stellar) and total mass of nearby galaxies, and will soon focus on current attempts and future perspectives at measuring these quantities at higher and higher redshifts.

The organization of the workshop is now in an advanced stage (see list of speakers below) and all those interested in attending the meeting should REGISTER as soon as possible.

The FINAL deadline for registration is June 15, 2001.

Accommodations. It is especially timely that all those seeking an accomodation among those provided by the organization of the workshop do indicate their preferences. Several registrations were received where such preferences were not indicated, please complete your registrations filling in your Accommodation Reservation Form. After June 15 reservations for these special accomodations will not be accepted any longer. Participants seeking an accomodation on their own are also advised to make their reservations as soon as possible, given the permanent touristic pressure on Venetian hotels.

Registration Fee. The registration fee (500,000 Lit.) will be payable cash at the conference desk (sorry, no credit cards). The fee will also cover lunches on the island of S. Servolo (the venue of the meeting), an "all lines" ticket allowing to travel on all public ferries and busses of the Venetian metropolitan areas for 72 hours, and a copy of the conference proceedings.

Welcome Reception. A welcome reception will be offered to all participants and accompaneing persons on October 23, from 18.00 to 20.00, in the premises of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti, located in Campo S. Stefano, just midway between "Fondazione Levi" and "Istituto Ciliota". A registration desk will be available, and participants will be briefed on how to reach the S. Servolo island and on other logistic matters.
