1. E-ELT MEETING

An important meeting for the European astronomical community entitled "Towards the European Extremely Large Telescope" will be held on 27 November - 1 December 2006 in Marseille. This Meeting will offer to the European astronomical community at large the opportunity to provide precious feedback to the goals and means of this ambitious long-term programme, before a decision to proceed designing the facility to be taken end 2006/early 2007. 2. UKIDSS DATA RELEASE

The first data release of the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) was made on 21 July 2006. UKIDSS is a set of 5 large near-infrared surveys that began in May 2005, and will take 7 years to complete. DR1 is the first large release of survey-quality data from UKIDSS and includes 320 sq degs of multicolour data. Details at: http://www.eso.org/science/projects/ukidss/index.html

3. SEARCH COMMITTEE FOR NEW ESO DIRECTOR GENERAL

The current ESO Director General, Catherine Cesarsky, will be leaving her post at the end of August 2007, and ESO Council has established a Search Committee to help in the selection of the next DG. More details at: http://www.eso.org/gen-fac/adm/pers/vacant/ESO_Director_General_2006.pdf

4. ESO FELLOWSHIPS
