"The ESO Phase 3:  how to ensuring the legacy value of science data products" on behalf of ASG.

The ESO science operations includes a process which consists of the preparation, validation, ingestion and publication of science-ready products for the community in the ESO Science Archive Facility. Such process is named "Phase3''.  The goals of Phase 3 is the creation and publication of an archive content which is homogeneous and VO-compliant, whose products are uniformly characterized by their physical parameters.

Within this presentation, a brief overview of the main  concepts and workflow for Phase 3 will be presented. A key role is to ensure the re-usability of science data products: this is achieved with the Phase 3 science data product standard and data validation. The latter consists of two parts, an automatic file-by file verification phase followed by a extensive validation performed by an ESO scientist. Once both are passed,  the products are published in the ESO Archive jointly with their support documentation. The Phase 3 standard allows to build enhanced functionalities for data dissemination, discovery and further exploitation/re-use. It also ensures a robust management in view of an ever increasing volume and diversity of the archive holdings.
