De Zeeuw-Van Dishoeck tähtitieteen valmistumispalkinto 2017 on myönnetty Laura Driessenille

Tähtitieteen De Zeeuw–Van Dishoeck valmistumispalkinto, mikä on tarkoitettu nuorten lahjakkaiden tähtitieteilijöiden rohkaisemiseksi Hollannissa on myönnetty Laura Driessenille Amsterdamin yliopistosta. Palkinto myönnettiin Haarlemissa pidetyssä seremoniassa 27.11.2017.
Kunniakirjasta ja 3000 euron rahasummasta koostuva palkinto myönnetään vuosittain parhaalle maisterityölle tähtitieteen alalla alankomaalaisessa yliopistossa opiskelevalle opiskelijalle. Laura Driessen sai palkinnon hänen maisterityöstään koskien supernovajäännöksiä ja pulsarien sumuja. Laura opiskelee nyt tohtorin tutkintoa Manchesterissa Yhdistyneessä Kuningaskunnassa.
Laura oli erittäin yllättynyt kuullessaan voittaneensa De Zeeuw-Van Dishoeck palkinnon: “Nautin todella tässä projektissa työskentelystä ja sain paljon tukea ohjaajiltani Jason Hesselsilta ja Jacco Vinkilta”: hän sanoi. “Tämä projekti näytti minulle miten arvoituksellinen Linnunrata on ja miten paljon emme siitä vielä tiedä. Tämäntyyppinen tähtitieteen tutkimus vaatii myös kehittyneitä tekniikoita ja uusia tapoja datan käsittelylle, millä on myös laajemmalti sovelluksia.”
Palkinnon rahaston perustivat ESO:n entinen pääjohtaja Tim De Zeeuw (teoreettisen tähtitieteen professori), sekä Ewine van Dishoeck (molekulaarisen astrofysiikan professori) Leidenin yliopistosta. Palkinto myönnettiin ensimmäsitä kertaa Job Feldbruggelle marraskuussa 2014.
Palkinnon jakaa 'Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW)", mikä on Alankomaiden vanhin tiedeyhdistys. Se on perustettu vuonna 1752 ja KHMW:n tavoitteena on tieteen edistäminen, sekä tieteen ja yhteisön välisen kuilun kaventaminen.
