Stanziati i fondi del Comitato congiunto ESO–Cile

Per rafforzare la cooperazione con il Cile, l'ESO fornisce e gestisce un fondo annuale che premia i progetti dedicati allo sviluppo della ricerca scientifica, della tecnologia e dell'educazione nel campo dell’astronomia. Il Comitato congiunto ESO-Cile 2020 ha ora selezionato 15 progetti che soddisfano tali criteri, assegnando un totale di 460 milioni di pesos cileni (circa 500.000 euro).
I fondi sosterranno programmi di post-dottorato in astronomia presso le istituzioni accademiche cilene, posizioni di visiting researcher, posizioni accademiche, la costruzione di sistemi tecnologici per l'astronomia, oltre a programmi educativi per la didattica e la divulgazione dell'astronomia.
Istituito nel 1996, il Comitato congiunto ESO-Cile riunisce rappresentanti dell'ESO e del governo cileno, attraverso il Dipartimento per l’Energia, la Scienza, la Tecnologia e l’Innovazione (DECYTI) del Ministero degli Affari Esteri (MINREL), e con la partecipazione dell’Agenzia nazionale cilena per la ricerca e lo sviluppo (ANID) e la Società astronomica cilena (SOCHIAS).
Il Comitato congiunto ESO-Cile ha dato un costante contributo allo sviluppo nel paese dell'astronomia e delle discipline tecnologiche a essa associate attraverso finanziamenti competitivi. Il Comitato valuta le proposte di progetto annuali che vengono concesse a istituzioni accademiche pubbliche e private, nonché a istituzioni a esse correlate su tutto il territorio nazionale cileno.
