Início da construção da Residencia ALMA
Contrato adjudicado para construir nova casa ao pessoal e visitantes do local

O contrato para construir a Residencia do Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) foi adjudicado ao consórcio L y D - Axis, do qual fazem parte a Constructora L y D S.A. e a Axis Desarrollos Constructivos S.A. Ambas são companhias chilenas com experiência na construção de edifícios do tipo residencial no ambiente inóspito do norte do Chile.
A Residencia ALMA será a nova casa do pessoal e visitantes da infraestrutura. A forma dos edifícios e a cor dos exteriores deste importante projeto arquitetónico foram concebidas para se confundirem com a topografia, o meio ambiente e a paisagem do local onde está instalado o ALMA. O design foi concebido pelos arquitetos finlandeses Kuovo & Partanen, tendo sido depois adaptado ao mercado chileno por Rigotti & Simunovic Arquitectos, uma companhia de arquitetura chilena.
Desde o início da construção do ALMA, em 2008, com a entrega da primeira antena ALMA (eso0849), que o pessoal e visitantes têm vivido em contentores temporários no campo base no Local de Apoio às Operações (sigla do inglês, OSF), o ponto focal de todas as actividades de montagem, integração e verificação das antenas. Situado a 2900 metros acima do nível do mar, o OSF encontra-se a cerca de 10 quilómetros da estrada pública mais próxima e a cidade mais próxima é San Pedro de Atacama.
A construções da rede ALMA teve até agora prioridade e por isso a Residencia no OSF era o último contrato principal que faltava adjudicar.
O trabalho especificado no contrato começará no início de 2015 e espera-se que dure 18 meses. Devido às inóspitas condições do deserto, à localização remota e ao trabalho por turnos (tanto de dia como de noite), a que o pessoal que trabalha no ALMA tem que se sujeitar, a Residencia foi concebida para providenciar um ambiente agradável às pessoas que aí trabalham e que vêm de 20 países diferentes.
A Residencia tem duas zonas principais: áreas comuns e áreas de quartos. O design usa o conceito modular de modo a que, se necessário, se possa acrescentar mais acomodações. Inicialmente serão construídos 120 quartos em seis edifícios.
As áreas comuns incluem zonas de lazer como biblioteca, cafetaria, sala de estar, spa com ginástica, piscina, sauna e zona de barbecue. Existirão também uma cozinha e uma sala de jantar, com espaço suficiente para acomodar metade dos residentes de uma só vez.
