ESO:n tähtitiedeleiri lukiolaisille

Euroopan eteläinen observatorio (ESO) ja sen tiedeviestintäverkosto järjestävät yhteistyössä tiedetiedotustapahtumia toimeenpanevan Sterrenlabin kanssa ESO:n ensimmäisen tähtitiedeleirin. Leiri pidetään 26.-31. joulukuuta 2013 Valle d'Aostan observatoriolla Saint-Barthelemyssä, Italian Nusissa. Useat kumppanit, ESO mukaanlukien, tarjoavat, tähän mennessä, viisi matka-apurahaa, jotka myönnetään menestyneimmille hakijoille.
Leirillä tutkitaan näkyvän ja näkymättömän maailmankaikkeuden teemaa luentojen, käytännön harjoitusten ja observatorion teleskoopeilla ja havaintolaitteilla tehtävien yöllisten havaintojen myötä. Sosiaalinen toiminta, talviurheilu ja tutustumisretket täydentävät leiriä tehden siitä ikimuistoisen kokemuksen osallistujille. ESO:n tähtitiedeleirin tieteellisestä ohjelmasta on vastuussa ESO, joka yhdessä omien kumppaniensa kanssa tarjoaa luennot ja kurssimateriaalin.
Sterrenlab on erikoistunut järjestämään kansainvälisiä tiedeleirejä lapsille ja teini-ikäisille sekä tarjoaa valikoiman konsultointipalveluita ja tieteelliseen koulutukseen sekä kommunikaatioon liittyvien projektien ja tapahtumien suunnittelu- ja toteutuspalveluita.
Leirille otetaan ESO:n jäsenmaista ja ESO:n tiedeviestintäverkostoon osallistuvista maista enintään 55 lukiolaista 16 ja 18 ikävuosien väliltä. Oppilaiden, jotka haluavat hakea leirille, tulee täyttää kaavake leirin WWW-sivuilla viimeistään 15. lokakuuta 2013. Ehdokkaiden valinta suoritetaan 31. lokakuuta 2013. Lopullinen osallistujalista vahvistetaan 8. marraskuuta 2013 mennessä. Valintakriteerit ja muita osallistumisohjeita on saatavilla leirin WWW-sivulla.
Rekisteröitymismaksu, 480 euroa, kattaa täysihoitomajoituksen Saint Barthelemyn retkeilymajassa, ammattilaisten tarjoaman ohjauksen, kaikki tähtitieteelliset ja vapaa-ajan toiminnot, materiaalit, tutustumisretket, sisäiset kuljetukset ja vakuutuksen. Linja-autokuljetus järjestetään observatorion ja Milanon Malpensan lentokentän välille.
Parhaan hakemuksen kirjoittanut hakija voittaa ESO:n sponsoroiman ilmaisen matkan. Tämä apuraha kattaa leirin kustannukset ja kuljetuksen leirille. Se myönnetään parhaalle jossakin ESO:n jäsenmaassa asuvan hakijan kirjoittamalle hakemukselle. Neljä kansallista kumppania tarjoaa myös ilmaisen rekisteröitymisen leirille parhaalle hakemukselle, jonka on kirjoittanut kussakin maassa asuva oppilas (ei kuitenkaan matkakustannuksia):
