Comparison of a single VLT mirror with the segmented ELT mirror
This sequence compares the solid 8.2-metre mirrors of the VLT with the much larger 39-meter segmented mirror of the future ELT. The ELT mirror is composed of 798 hexagonal segments, each 1.4 metres across.
