Konstnärlig animation av stjärnparet D9 som kretsar kring det supermassiva svarta hålet Sgr A*
Denna animation visar D9, det första stjärnparet som upptäckts nära Sagittarius A*, det supermassiva svarta hålet i Vintergatans centrum. Vi zoomar in mot och ut från det svarta hålet och de enskilda stjärnorna som kretsar runt detsamma, för att sedan närma oss D9, det första binära stjärnsystemet någonsin som har hittats i dess närhet. Videon, som gjordes av en konstnär vid Brno Observatory and Planetarium, visar hur stjärnsystemet kretsar runt det svarta hålet. Filmen avslöjar också det stoftrika gasmoln som stjärnparet är inkapslat i och som antyder att det är ett ungt stjärnsystem. Bildandet och överlevnaden av ett dubbelt stjärnsystem i denna extrema miljö vsar att svarta hål inte är så destruktiva som vi trodde.
