Apertura del concurso Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2018

El Real Observatorio de Greenwich, en asociación con la empresa Insight Investment y la publicación BBC Sky at Night Magazine, ha anunciado las fechas para el concurso Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2018; la búsqueda global que lleva a cabo cada año para encontrar las vistas más hermosas y espectaculares del cosmos, ya sean sorprendentes imágenes de vastas galaxias a millones de años luz de distancia, o fastuosas fotografías del cielo nocturno mucho más cerca de casa.

ESO contribuye a la competencia del presente año con un juez perteneciente a su Departamento de Educación y Difusión (ePOD).

Ahora en su décima edición, la competición, que cuenta con un alto nivel de popularidad, se abrirá a los participantes el día lunes 15 de enero, dándoles la oportunidad de llevar a casa un gran premio de 10.000 libras esterlinas. Los interesados en participar tendrán hasta el viernes 9 de marzo para inscribir hasta diez imágenes en las distintas categorías del concurso a través del sitio www.rmg.co.uk/astrophoto.

El concurso Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2018 comprende 9 categorías principales:

  • Vistas del cielo: imágenes de paisajes campestres y urbanos, durante la noche o el crepúsculo, mostrando la Vía Láctea, estelas de estrellas, lluvias de estrellas, cometas, conjunciones de objetos celestes, salida de constelaciones, halos y nubes noctilucentes, junto a elementos del escenario terrestre.

  • Auroras: fotografías que muestran las auroras boreales y australes.

  • Las personas y el espacio: fotografías del cielo nocturno que incluyen personas o un elemento de interés humano.

  • Nuestro Sol: imágenes del Sol, incluyendo eclipses solares y tránsitos astronómicos.

  • Nuestra Luna: imágenes de la Luna, incluyendo eclipses lunares y ocultaciones de planetas.

  • Planetas, cometas y asteroides: todo lo demás presente en el Sistema Solar, incluyendo los planetas y sus satélites, cometas, asteroides y otros tipos de residuos zodiacales.

  • Estrellas y Nebulosas: objetos del espacio profundo dentro de la Vía Láctea, incluyendo estrellas, cúmulos estelares, remanentes de supernova, nebulosas y otros fenómenos intergalácticos.

  • Galaxias: objetos del espacio profundo fuera de la Vía Láctea, incluyendo galaxias, cúmulos de galaxias y asociaciones estelares.

  • Joven Astrofotógrafo del Año: fotografías tomadas por astrónomos principiantes menores de 16 años.

Además, el concurso cuenta con dos premios especiales: El premio Sir Patrick Moore al Mejor Novato, se otorga a la mejor fotografía tomada por un astrofotógrafo aficionado que haya iniciado su pasatiempo en el último año y que no haya participado anteriormente con ninguna imagen en la competición; y el premio Robotic Scope, que entrega un reconocimiento a la mejor foto captada por uno del creciente número de telescopios controlados por computador en los sitios de observación de primera clase alrededor del mundo, los que permiten el acceso del público a través de Internet.

Las postulaciones al concurso deben presentarse a más tardar el día 9 de marzo de 2018, y las imágenes ganadoras se exhibirán en la exposición anual a realizarse en el Museo Marítimo Nacional a partir del 24 de octubre de 2018. Para celebrar diez años  de espectacular astrofotografía, la exposición 2018  también presentará 100 imágenes impresionantes recopiladas durante los años en que se ha llevado a cabo el concurso.

Los fotógrafos pueden registrarse a través de Internet visitando el sitio www.rmg.co.uk/astrophoto. Cada participante puede enviar hasta diez imágenes.
