O ESO apoia concurso de astrofotografia

O ESO convida-o a participar no AstroCamera 2014 - um concurso internacional no âmbito da divulgação da astronomia e astrofotografia. Como financiador honorário do concurso organizado pelo Hewelianum Centre, o ESO atribuirá prémios às menções honrosas, que consistirão em livros e DVDs, enquanto os vencedores receberão bolsas por parte dos organizadores.
Iniciado a 28 de janeiro de 2011 no âmbito das comemorações do 400º aniversário de nascimento do astrónomo do século XVII Johannes Hevelius, o concurso está aberto a todos os entusiastas da astronomia e astrofotografia. A vida e conquistas de Hevelius, um célebre observador do céu noturno, tem sido a inspiração para que o Hewelianum Centre organize o concurso da AstroCamera regularmente. Esta é a quarta edição de tal evento.
O concurso organiza-se em torno das seguintes categorias:
- Categoria I: objetos do céu profundo (fotografias de enxames de estrelas, galáxias, nebulosas, etc.),
- Categoria II: objetos do Sistema Solar (fotografias de planetas, Lua, cometas, meteoros, eclipses, trânsitos de objetos, etc.),
- Categoria III: paisagens astronómicas (fotografias mostrando paisagens com objetos astronómicos, por exemplo, objetos astronómicos a nascer ou a pôr-se ou movimentos da esfera celeste).
As fotografias participantes serão classificadas segundo os seguintes critérios: conteúdo, tipo de objeto, brilho do objeto, nível de dificuldade na observação do objeto, raridade, etc. e estética: objeto visualmente atraente, nitidez da fotografia, nível de ruído, etc.
As inscrições para o concurso terminam a 18 de julho de 2014 e os resultados serão anunciados pouco depois desta data. Os prémios serão entregues durante um evento organizado no Hewelianum Centre “The Night of Shooting Stars”, a 12 de agosto de 2014.

O ESO é a mais importante organização europeia intergovernamental para a investigação em astronomia e é o observatório astronómico mais produtivo do mundo. No Paranal, o ESO opera o Very Large Telescope, o observatório astronómico óptico mais avançado do mundo e dois telescópios de rastreio. O VISTA, o maior telescópio de rastreio do mundo que trabalha no infravermelho e o VLT Survey Telescope, o maior telescópio concebido exclusivamente para mapear os céus no visível. O ESO é o parceiro europeu do revolucionário telescópio ALMA, o maior projeto astronómico que existe atualmente. O ESO encontra-se a planear o European Extremely Large Telescope, E-ELT, um telescópio de 39 metros que observará na banda do visível e do infravermelho próximo. O E-ELT será “o maior olho do mundo virado para o céu”.
