AstroCamera 2014: Wettbewerb nimmt Beiträge entgegen
ESO unterstützt Astrofotografie-Wettbewerb

Die ESO lädt Sie zur Teilnahme an AstroCamera 2014 ein – einem internationalen Wettbewerb, der die Popularisierung von Astronomie und Astrofotografie unterstützt. Die ESO wird als Unterstützer in dem Wettbewerb, der vom Zentrum Hewelianum organisiert wird, Preise für die Ehrennennungen in Form von Büchern und DVDs verleihen. Die Gewinner erhalten Geldbeträge von den Organisatoren.
Zum ersten Mal ausgeschrieben am 28. Januar 2011 in Zusammenhang mit dem 400. Jubiläum des Geburtstages von Johannes Hevelius , einem Astronomen aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, ist der Wettbewerb offen für alle Enthusiasten der Astronomie und Astrofotografie. Das Leben und die Errungenschaften von Hevelius, einem renommierten Beobachter des Nachthimmels, dienten als Inspiration für das Zentrum Hewelianum und haben dazu geführt, dass der Wettbewerb regelmäßig ausgeschrieben wird. Der Wettbewerb findet bereits zum vierten Mal statt.
Der Wettbewerb ist in die folgenden Kategorien unterteilt:
- Kategorie I: Deep-Sky-Objekte (Fotografien von Sternhaufen, Galaxien, Nebeln, etc.)
- Kategorie II: Objekte des Sonnensystems (Fotografien von den Planeten, vom Mond, Kometen, Meteoren, Finsternissen, Transits, etc.)
- Kategorie III: astronomische Landschaften (Fotografien, die Landschaftselemente mit astronomischen Objekten zeigen, z.B. Auf- oder Untergang astronomischer Objekte und die Bewegung der Himmelssphäre).
Die Einreichungen werden nach den folgenden Kriterien bewertet: Inhalt, Objekttyp, Helligkeit der Objekte, Schwierigkeitsgrad bei der Beobachtung des Objekts, Rarität (Einzigartigkeit), etc. sowie Ästhetik: visuelle Attraktivität der Objekte, Bildschärfe und Rauschminderung, etc.
Der Wettbewerb schließt am 18. Juli 2014. Die Ergebnisse werden kurz darauf verkündet. Die Preise werden bei The Night of Shooting Stars, verliehen, einer Veranstaltung, die vom Zentrum Hewelianium am 12. August 2014 organisiert wird.

Die Europäische Südsternwarte ESO (European Southern Observatory) ist die führende europäische Organisation für astronomische Forschung und das wissenschaftlich produktivste Observatorium der Welt. Getragen wird die Organisation durch ihre 15 Mitgliedsländer: Belgien, Brasilien, Dänemark, Deutschland, Finnland, Frankreich, Großbritannien, Italien, die Niederlande, Österreich, Portugal, Spanien, Schweden, die Schweiz und die Tschechische Republik. Die ESO ermöglicht astronomische Spitzenforschung, indem sie leistungsfähige bodengebundene Teleskope entwirft, konstruiert und betreibt. Auch bei der Förderung internationaler Zusammenarbeit auf dem Gebiet der Astronomie spielt die Organisation eine maßgebliche Rolle. Die ESO betreibt drei weltweit einzigartige Beobachtungsstandorte in Nordchile: La Silla, Paranal und Chajnantor. Auf dem Paranal betreibt die ESO mit dem Very Large Telescope (VLT) das weltweit leistungsfähigste Observatorium für Beobachtungen im Bereich des sichtbaren Lichts und zwei Teleskope für Himmelsdurchmusterungen: VISTA, das größte Durchmusterungsteleskop der Welt, arbeitet im Infraroten, während das VLT Survey Telescope (VST) für Himmelsdurchmusterungen ausschließlich im sichtbaren Licht konzipiert ist. Die ESO ist der europäische Partner bei den neuartigen Teleskopverbund ALMA, dem größten astronomischen Projekt überhaupt. Derzeit entwickelt die ESO ein Großteleskop mit 39 Metern Durchmesser für Beobachtungen im Bereich des sichtbaren und Infrarotlichts, das einmal das größte optische Teleskop der Welt werden wird: das European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT).
