Så kender vi vinderne af stipendierne til den fjerde ESO Astronomy Camp
og der er to unge danskere blandt de heldige

Der indkom mere end 180 videoansøgninger fra 25 lande til 2016 ESO Astronomy Camp og nu er vinderne af de forskellige stipendier, som udbydes af ESO og de lokale partnere fundet.
I år var standarden for ansøgningerne ekstremt høj. En lang række meget enthusiastiske kommende forskere og ingeniører var ivrige efter at få plads på årets Camp. Det er en gælde for ESO at kunne fortælle, at Lucia Mendes Cuccheieri fra Brasilien har vundet ESOs eget stipendium, som dækker både deltagelse i camp'en og rejseudgifterne.
De følgende studerende får også økonomisk støtte til at deltager, fra de nationale partnere:

- Fra Stellar Astrophysics Centre, Instrument Center for Danish Astrophysics, at Aarhus University, Danmark, støtte til Jesper Holm and Sebastian Stangegaard
- Fra German Astronomical Society, Tyskland, støtte til Malin Moll
- Fra National Institute of Astrophysics, Italien, støtte til Mariastella Cascone
- Fra Netherlands Research School for Astronomy, Nederlandene, støtte til Tabitha de Haan
- Fra Polish Astronomical Society, Polen, støtte til Bartosz Cieślik
- From Ciência Viva, Portugal, støtte til Luis Martins og Mariana Prazeres
- Fra Spanish Astronomical Society, Spanien, støtte til Alba Bellotas
- Fra Swedish Astronomical Society, Sverige, Eleonora Svanberg
- Fra University of Geneva, Schweiz, støtte til Omar Alam
- Fra Eyuboglu High School, Tyrkiet, støtte til Gözde İloğlu og Beyza Yildirim
- Fra Royal Astronomical Society, United Kingdom, støtte til Laura Suller og John Conacher
Takket være disse partnere og ESOs stipendium får en student fra hvert af de ESO medlemslande, hvorfra vi har modtaget ansøgninger, støtte til at være med til dette arrangement, som måske kan ændre deres liv. Alle partnerorganisationer støtter også arrangementet ved at sende oplægsholdere og ideer til programmet - vi deler jo alle lidenskaben for af formidle astronomien.
Astronomy Camp organiseres af Sterrenlab i samarbejde med ESO, ESO Science Outreach Network og Astronomical Observatory of the Autonomous Region of the Aosta Valley. Det hele afvikles fra 26. december 2016 til 1. januar 2017 i Saint-Barthélemy, Nus, Italien.
Årets tema er "Det synlige og det skjulte Univers". Der bliver adskillige astronomiske oplæg, forelæsninger, hands-on-aktiviteter og natlige observationer med observatoriets instrumenter. Arrangementet følger retningslinierne i Responsible Research and Innovation. Studenterne kommer til at udføre rigtig forskning, og de kommer til at arbejde sammen med aktive forskere. Ud over det er der sociale aktiviteter, vintersport og udflugter, og alt i alt ved vi fra tidligere, at deltagelsen bliver en uforglemmelig oplevelse for alle de unge og ældre deltagere.
I alt er der højest 56 elever i alderen 16-18, som kan deltage. De heldige kandidater er kontaktet via e-mail.
