The 3.6-metre telescope in full grandeur

Since 1977, ESO’s 3.6-metre telescope at La Silla Observatory has been at the forefront of astronomical research. Developing 3-4 metre dishes was an engineering feat in the seventies — the humans to scale show it was no small matter — and the telescope has kept up with the times since then following regular upgrades.
