Einladung an die Medien: Wissenschaftliches Symposium ESO@50

Vertreter der Medien sind herzlich eingeladen, an der wissenschaftlichen Fachtagung ESO@50 teilzunehmen, die anlsslich des 50-jährigen Jubiläums der ESO vom 3. bis zum 7. September in Garching bei München stattfindet. Einige der bekanntesten Wissenschaftler aus Europa und der ganzen Welt werden teilnehmen.
Während der fünftägigen Konferenz können Journalisten gemeinsam mit den Astronomen einen Überblick über die Hauptthemengebiete bekommen, zu denen Beobachtungen mit den Einrichtungen der ESO einen wichtigen Beitrag geleistet haben. Dies reicht von der Erforschugtn unseres Sonnensystems bis hin zur Grundlagenforschung in der Physik. Perspektiven auf die wissenschaftlichen Herausforderungen der kommenden Jahrzehnte werden ebenfalls gegeben.
Interviews mit den Teilnehmern sind natürlich ebenfalls möglich.
Zu den eingeladenen Rednern zählen unter anderem:
- Richard Ellis: ESO's impact on ground-based astronomy (Der Beitrag der ESO zur bodengebundenen Astronomie)
- Marijn Franx: High-redshift clusters and proto-clusters (Hochrotverschobene Galaxienhaufen und Proto-Haufen)
- Reinhard Genzel: The Milky Way centre (Das Zentrum der Milchstraße)
- Alvio Renzini: How ESO changed astronomy in Europe (Wie die ESO die Astronomie in Europa veränderte)

Der Gastgeber der Tagung ist Prof. Dr. Tim de Zeeuw, der Generaldirektor der ESO. Er wird über die Visionen der ESO für die kommenden 50 Jahre sprechen.
Außerdem werden die ersten Forschungsergebnisse von ALMA sowie die neuesten, noch unveröffentlichten Resultate vom VLT, vom VLTI und von La Silla präsentiert und eine Vorschau auf die mit dem E-ELT zu erwartenden Durchbrüche gegeben.
Akkreditierte Vertreter der Medien können sich per E-Mail an information@eso.org bis zum 30. Juni 2012 für das Symposium anmelden. Leider ist die Zahl der möglichen Teilnehmer aus Platzgründen begrenzt, wir bitten daher um eine möglichst frühzeitige Registrierung. Die freien Plätze werden nach dem Zeitpunkt der Anmeldung vergeben.
