Aparição artística no ALMA

Observatório acolhe enorme instalação de bola de golfe

O Observatório ALMA acolhe atualmente a sua primeira exposição de arte: uma bola de golfe de proporções enormes que se encontra ao pé das antenas, a uma altitude de 5000 metros acima do nível do mar no planalto do Chajnantor. Esta obra de arte insuflável faz parte de um projeto itinerante chamado Jogo Misto de Dagmara Wyskiel [1], uma artista polaca que vive em Antofagasta, no norte do Chile, há mais de uma década.

Depois da bola gigante completar a sua viagem pelo Deserto do Atacama, irá até ao Glaciar Cinzento em Magalhães, seguindo depois para a costa em Valparaíso.

“Jogo Misto envolve a introdução de um objeto enigmático mas ao mesmo tempo visualmente sintético, em diversas paisagens de espaço aberto,” explica a artista, que é responsável por uma produção relacionada com arte contemporânea, design gráfico, educação pela arte e desenvolvimento cultural. Dagmara Wyshiel acrescenta que “o objeto introduzido sugere que algo pode ter finalmente aparecido em resposta à nossa intensa e incessante busca do sentido do Universo e à nossa recepção de ondas vindas doutros locais. O problema é que a “aparição”, ao mesmo tempo tão familiar e inesperada, pode não ser exactamente o que tínhamos em mente.”

Para muitos dos trabalhadores do ALMA responsáveis pela manutenção diária das 66 antenas, a aparição de uma orbe enorme pareceu por um momento uma ilusão óptica ou um sonho. Aproximando-se para verem mais de perto, a natureza surpreendente do objeto foi-lhes então revelada.

A justaposição da peça de arte com astronomia moderna de vanguarda produz uma oportunidade rara de partilha de conceitos de ambos os campos com um novo público. No final, podemos ver que tanto artistas como astrónomos têm que dar asas à sua imaginação de modo a conseguirem atingir os seus objetivos.

O ALMA é o segundo local do Jogo Misto. Antes de escalar a Cordilheira dos Andes, este projeto tinha já atravessado um dos lugares mais secos do planeta, o deserto Quillagua, e brevemente atravessará a Patagónia e eventualmente far-se-á ao mar.

O ALMA é uma parceria entre o ESO (representando os seus Estados Membros), o NSF (EUA) e o NINS (Japão), juntamente com o NRC (Canadá), NSC e ASIAA (Ilha Formosa), e KASI (Coreia do Sul), em cooperação com a República do Chile. O Observatório ALMA é operado pelo ESO, AUI/NRAO e NAOJ.

[1] Dagmara Wyskiel tem um mestrado em arte pela Academia de Belas Artes de Cracóvia, Polónia. A artista viveu em Nova Iorque, Tenerife e Frankfurt. Em Antofagasta, levou a cabo uma série de iniciativas, tanto do ponto de vista associativo como de trabalho artístico individual, iniciativas essas que moldaram o cenário artístico nesta cidade do norte do Chile.
