Participe no Origens 2013
As principais organizações científicas europeias participarão na Noite dos Investigadores

O CERN, a ESA, o ESO e a UNESCO, em parceria com o Instituto Italiano de Astrofísica (INAF), convidam o público a participar no Origens 2013, um evento único que terá lugar simultaneamente em Genebra, Paris e Bolonha na Noite dos Investigadores europeus, sexta-feira, dia 27 de setembro de 2013. O evento pode ser seguido em direto por qualquer pessoa em qualquer parte do mundo através de webcasts.
O que é que a física das partículas, a astrofísica e as ciências espaciais têm em comum? Todas elas tratam de questões fundamentais ligadas às nossas origens: a origem da matéria, a origem do Universo e, potencialmente, a origem da própria vida.
Nos últimos meses, o Large Hadron Collider, com a descoberta do bosão de Higgs, e o satélite Planck, com a divulgação da imagem mais precisa de sempre do Universo muito primordial, obtiveram avanços científicos extraordinários. Adicionalmente, a rede de telescópios ALMA foi recentemente inaugurada no Chile. O ALMA é o maior projeto astronómico que existe e permitir-nos-á obter imagens sem precedentes do cosmos.
O Origens 2013 mostrará estas iniciativas científicas fascinantes. Este evento único enfatiza as ligações fortes que existem entre o domínio muito pequeno da física das partículas e o muito grande da astrofísica, e os investigadores dos dois campos partilharão com o público a sua paixão e ideias.
O público, no CERN em Genebra, na Sede da UNESCO em Paris e na cidade de Bolonha, embarcará numa viagem pelo espaço e pelo tempo, com o intuito de aprender mais sobre as origens do Universo a partir da súbita expansão do espaço há 13,8 mil milhões de anos atrás. Nos três locais, os visitantes poderão conhecer os investigadores que participaram nestas conquistas científicas através de conversas face-a-face do género speed dating.
“Com o Origens 2013 queremos celebrar os milhares de investigadores que, através do seu trabalho com instrumentos científicos de vanguarda, tais como o Planck e o LHC, levaram a humanidade um passo em frente na compreensão das origens do nosso Universo e nos deram uma imagem nova da sua composição atual,” disse Sergio Bertolucci, o Diretor de Investigação do CERN. Sergio abrirá o evento no CERN, na sexta-feira dia 27 de setembro, com Mark McCaughream, Chefe do Departamento de Investigação e Apoio à Ciência da ESA, e Gretchen Kalonji, Assistente do Diretor Geral para as Ciências Naturais da UNESCO.
Vídeo-conferências ligarão as três cidades europeias ao Centro de Controle das Operações da Missão Planck em Darmstadt, Alemanha; ao Observatório ALMA no deserto do Atacama no Chile, e ao túnel do LHC, 100 metros abaixo do chão, próximo de Genebra, Suíça. Adicionalmente, haverá um link direto ao astronauta da ESA, Luca Parmitano, a bordo da Estação Espacial Internacional.
Reservas para o speed dating e para o webcast direto do CERN têm que ser feitas através da página web do Origens.
O Origens 2013 é um projeto pensado pelo CERN e realizado em parceria com o INAF, com a colaboração do ESO, ESA e UNESCO.
