Assinado contrato de consultoria para a cúpula e estrutura principal do E-ELT

No dia 30 de maio de 2013 o ESO assinou um contrato com a companhia dinamarquesa Rambold requerendo serviços de consultoria que apoiarão o ESO durante a construção da cúpula e da estrutura principal do European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT).
O contrato para a cúpula e estrutura principal será o maior que o ESO já fez e cobrirá não apenas o edifício do telescópio gigante, edifício esse com quase 100 metros de diâmetro (o tamanho do Coliseu de Roma), mas também os enormes componentes de precisão que formarão o local onde o telescópio estará montado e o seu tubo. Espera-se que este enorme contrato para a construção da cúpula e estrutura principal seja adjudicado no final de 2014. De modo a complementar os esforços do ESO e fornecer consultoria especializada sobre uma vasta área de matérias relativas a este contrato, a empresa Rambold trabalhará em uníssono com o ESO.

O E-ELT é um dos maiores projetos da astronomia terrestre europeia. Irá permitir avançar enormemente no conhecimento astrofísico, fornecendo estudos detalhados dos primeiros objetos do Universo, de planetas em órbita de outras estrelas, de buracos negros de massa extremamente elevada e da natureza e distribuição da matéria e energia escuras que dominam o Universo.
O processo de pesquisa de mercado para aquisição da cúpula e estrutura principal do E-ELT começou em junho de 2012, com a divulgação de informação que apresentou este projeto futuro à indústria no seio dos Estados Membros do ESO, convidando potenciais interessados a participar, primeiro em encontros presenciais e depois no Dia da Indústria do E-ELT, um evento organizado pelo ESO em Munique, em outubro de 2012 (ann12054).
O contrato de consultoria com a Rambold terá um período inicial de cinco anos, de 1 de julho de 2013 a 30 de junho de 2018, com opções que poderão estender o contrato até nove anos, i.e até 30 de junho de 2022.
Espera-se que a construção do E-ELT comece no final de 2013, com a primeira luz do telescópio prevista para dez anos mais tarde.
