Die ESO gibt die Unterstützung von AstroCamp bekannt
Gewinne eine kostenlose astronomische Reise nach Portugal

Die ESO ist stolz, Ihre neue Zusammenarbeit mit dem Zentrum für Astrophysik der Universität von Porto (CAUP) bekannt geben zu können, um das AstroCamp 2017 zu unterstützen, ein auf Astronomie fokussiertes, sommerliches, akademisches Programm für Schülerinnen und Schüler weiterführender Schulen. Das Sommer-AstroCamp 2017 findet vom 6. bis 20. August im Norden Portugals statt, am Zentrum für Umweltbildung und Auswertung des Landschaftsschutzgebietes Corno de Bico. Am 25. Februar hosten die Veranstalter einen Webcast, um den potenziellen Bewerberinnen und Bewerbern und ihren Familien weitere Informationen zukommen zu lassen.
Ziel des Camps ist es, die Neugier und das kritische Denkvermögen der Jugendlichen insbesondere im Bereich der Astrophysik zu stimulieren und Schülerinnen und Schüler mit unterschiedlichen Hintergründen und Lebenserfahrungen zusammenzubringen. Die Campteilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer besuchen zwei Kurse mit täglichen Unterrichtsstunden, bearbeiten Aufgaben und legen abschließend eine Prüfung ab.
Zu den Höhepunkten des diesjährigen Programms gehören:
- Astronomische Beobachtungen, sowohl mit dem bloßen Auge als auch mit Teleskopen – inklusive einer Veranstaltung, die mit dem Höhepunkt des Perseiden-Meteorschauers zusammenfällt.
- Skype-Gespräche mit Astronomen und Physikern aus verschiedenen Ländern.
- Ein Computer-Projekt, bei dem die Schülerinnen und Schüler mit Daten aus den weltbesten Teleskopen arbeiten können.
- Soziale Aktivitäten wie Wandern, Sport, gemeinnützige Aktivitäten und Spiel- und Dokumentarfilme.
Der Webcast am 25. Februar umfasst eine Präsentation eines ehemaligen Schülers, der seine Erfahrungen mit dem AstroCamp 2016 beschreibt, sowie Informationen über die Aktivitäten des Camps, die Bewerbung und das Auswahlverfahren. Das AstroCamp ist offen für Schülerinnen und Schüler aus jedem Land der Europäischen Union, die sich derzeit in einem der letzten drei Jahre vor der Hochschulausbildung befinden (d.h. Im Prinzip diejenigen, die 1999, 2000 oder 2001 geboren wurden). Die Arbeitssprache im Camp ist Englisch. Die Teilnehmerzahl ist begrenzt, so dass die Teilnehmer nach schulischer Leistung und Potenzial ausgewählt werden. Interessenten sollten die AstroCamp-Webseite besuchen, um Details zur Bewerbung zu erfahren, die ein Motivationsschreiben, ein Empfehlungsschreiben und die neuesten schulischen Ergebnisse der Kanditatin oder des Kandidaten enthalten sollte. Anmeldungen für das diesjährige AstroCamp werden vom 1. bis 30. April 2017 entgegengenommen. Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten, die in die engere Wahl kommen, werden dann zu einem Skype-Interview eingeladen, das am Wochenende vom 27. bis 28. Mai stattfinden wird.
Portugiesischen Schülerinnen und Schülern, die für die Teilnahme am Camp ausgewählt werden, enstehen keine Kosten. Schülerinnen und Schüler aus anderen Ländern zahlen eine Einschreibegebühr in Höhe von ca. 400 € für alle Kosten in Portugal (Vollpension, Betreuung durch Fachpersonal, alle Lageraktivitäten und Materialien, Transport vom / zum Flughafen Porto und Versicherung). Diese Gebühr beinhaltet keine Reisekosten zwischen der Heimat der Schülerin/des Schülers und dem Flughafen Porto.
Die Bewerberin bzw. der Bewerber mit der besten Bewerbung aus einem der ESO-Mitgliedsländer, der oder die bewerbungsberechtigt ist, gewinnt ein Stipendium der ESO, die die Einschreibegebühr beinhaltet.
Die Auswahl der Camp-Teilnehmer findet kurz nach den Camp-Interviews statt. Die Gewinnerin oder der Gewinner des ESO-Stipendiums wird um den 5. Juni bekanntgegeben. Die Teilnehmer müssen danach bestätigen, dass sie das Camp besuchen werden und die erforderlichen Unterlagen bis zum 14. Juni einreichen.
