ESO Supernovan tähtikatto on valmis
ESO Supernova planetaario & vierailijakeskuksen tähtikuorrutus

12. huhtikuuta 2016 ESO:n Supernova planetaario & vierailukeskuksen rakennukseen asennettiin vaikuttava tähtikatto. Katto, joka painaa lähes 30 tonnia, muodostuu lasipaneeleista, jotka on asennettu kolmion muotoisista osista tehtyyn metalliseen runkoon. Rakennelmassa on yhteenä 262 osaa, jotka on järjestetty taiteellisesti esittämään muutamia eteläisen taivaan tähtikuviota. Rakennelman valmisti South Tyrolean perheyrtys Frener-Reifer saatuaan idean Bernhardt + Partnerin arkkitehdeilta, jotka työskentelivät yhdessä ESO:n tähtitieteilijöiden kanssa. Katto asennettiin yhdellä ainoalla nostolla, jossa käytettiin erityistä 500-tonnin nosturia.
Katto antaa keskuksen vierailijoille mahdollisuuden nähdä yläpuolella oleva taivas samalla, kun sen alapuolella heille esitellään universumia koko komeudessaan ESO:n uudessa koulutus- ja tähtitieteen tiedoituslaitoksessa. Katto tulee pienessä mittakaavassa matkimaan valojen avulla upeaa näkymää taivaalle, jollaista tähtitieteilijät ESO:n observatorioissa voivat odottaa näkevänsä. Tämä tyylikäs katto on yksi ainutlaatuinen piirre sanoinkuvaamatonta arkkitehtuuria, josta keskuksen vierailijat voivat nauttia tähtitieteen ihmeiden rinnalla.
Viimeisintä tekniikkaa sisältävä digitaalinen planetaario ja yli 2200 neliömetriä näyttelytilaa mukaanlukien digitaaliset interaktiiviset toimipisteet, jotka on kehitetty Heidelbergin teoreettisen tutkimuksen instituutissa, johdattavat vierailijat jännittävälle matkalle läpi elävän Universumin. Konferenssitilat mahdollistavat erilaisten luentojen, työpajojen ja kokousten järjestämisen. ESO Supernovaan on ilmainen sisäänpääsy ja kaikki sisältö on esillä sekä englanniksi, että saksaksi.
ESO Supernovan verkkosivut antavat vierailijoille, toimittajille, opettajille, yhtiökumppaneille ja muiden planetaarioiden henkilökunnalle mahdollisuuden tutustua eri aktiviteetteihin, joita ESO Supernovalle on suunniteltu. Näyttelyiden teemat, opetukselliset aktiviteetit, planetaarioesitykset ja opastetut kierrokset ovat kaikki esitelty verkkosivuilla. Verkkosivulla on myös esillä eri mahdollisuuksia, miten voit tulla osaksi ESO:n Supernovatiimiä, joko vapaaehtoistyöntekijäksi, harjoittelijaksi tai osaksi henkilökuntaa. Yritykset, instituutit tai yksittäiset lahjoittajat, jotka haluavat tukea ESO Supernovaa voivat tehdä niin erityyppisten kumppanuuksien kautta, jotka kukin vastaavat erilaisia etuuksia.
Uraauurtava ESO Supernovan seremonia pidettiin 24. helmikuuta 2015 (ann15011), mikä merkitsi rakennuksen päävaiheen alkua. Rakennus tulee olemaan valmis vuoden 2017 alussa ja se tulee avautumaan yleisölle myöhemmin samana vuonna.

ESO Supernova planetaario & vierailijakeskus on huippuluokan tähtitieteen keskus, joka sijaitsee ESO:n päämajassa Garching bei Münchenissa. Keskus tarjoaa sinulle mukaansatempaavan kokemuksen, joka jättää sinut sanattomaksi oman maailmankaikkeutemme edessä. Vuodesta 2017 alkaen keskus antaa koululuokille ja perheille unohtumattoman oppimiskokemuksen, jossa jopa kaikkein abstrakteimmat ja kaukaisimmat aiheet tähtitieteestä ja fysiikasta selitetään ja visualisoidaan innovatiivisella tavalla.
ESO Supernova planetaario & vierailijakeskuksen rakentamisen on mahdollistanut yhteistyö Euroopan Eteläisen Observatorion (ESO) ja Heidelbergin teoreettisen tutkimuksen instituutin (HITS) kanssa. Rakennus on lahjoitus Klaus Tschira Stiftungilta (KTS), Saksalaiselta säätiöltä ja ESO vastaa laitoksen toiminnasta.
KTS
Klaus Tschira Stiftungin (KTS) perusti vuonna 1995 fysiikko ja SAP:in perustajajäsen Klaus Tschira. Se on yksi Euroopan suurimmista yksityisesti rahoitetuista yleishyödyllisistä säätiöistä. Säätiö tukee luonnontieteiden, matematiikan ja tietotekniikan edistystä ja pyrkii nostamaan näiden alojen arvostusta. Säätiön sitoutuminen toimintaan alkaa päiväkodeista ja toimintaa harjoitetaan kouluissa, yliopistoissa ja tutkimuslaitoksissa. Säätiö tukee erityisesti uusia tieteellisen tiedonvaihdon menetelmiä ja tukee tutkimustulosten esittämisen tapojen tutkimusta ja helppotajuisia esittämistapoja. ESO Supernova on lahjoitus KTS järjestöltä ja ESO vastaa laitoksen toiminnasta.
HITS
Heidelbergin teoreettisen tutkimuksen instituutin (HITS gGmbH) perustivat SAP:n perustajajäsen Klaus Tschira ja hänen säätiönsä Klaus Tschira Stiftung yksityiseksi voittoa tavoittelemattomaksi tutkimusinstituutiksi. HITS tekee perustutkimusta, mikä sisältää luonnontieteiden, matematiikan ja tietojenkäsittelyn sisältämän suuren tietomäärän prosessointia, jäsentämistä ja analyysiä. Tutkimusaiheet vaihtelevat molekulaarisesta biologiasta astrofysiikkaan.
