Time-keeping in control networks and software
The thesis should help ESO to resolve pending issues related with time systems, synchronization over networks, and implementation problems with Linux, C++, Java, Python.
This work involves the ELT observatory’s deterministic network, OPC/UA devices, high-performance network protocols, TAI and UTC standards and poor implementations of leap second handling.
State of the art standards should be proposed and investigated, and a coherent system design should be proposed.
