The steel backbone of ESO’s ELT

In Chile’s Atacama Desert, builders are assembling the steel frame of the ELT’s dome.

The steel beams are pieced together into 70-tonne structures like giant steel Lego. The structures are brought to the top platform and pieced together.

This ELT update dates from May 2023.
