ESO showreel
This compilation of fulldome footage showcases ESO's pioneering work in astronomy and engineering. Through 360-degree panoramas, fisheye stills and timelapses, the showreel exhibits a range of aspects of ESO, including the state-of-the-art telescopes, the dazzling views of the night sky that they were built to capture, and the impressive architecture of the buildings in which ESO staff work. The VLT is shown in action, with the distinguishable laser of unit telescope 4 (Yepun) creating an artificial guide star, and timelapses show the coordinated movements of the giant ALMA dishes as they observe different areas of the sky. Clips taken inside the telescopes are also shown, demonstrating the advanced engineering that underlies these scientific instruments. Much more of this is presented in ESO's engaging planetarium shows, including Journey to the Centre of the Milky Way, and Europe to the Stars.
