L’ESO annuncia il suo supporto all’AstroCamp estivo
Vinci un viaggio astronomico gratuito in Portogallo

L’ESO è orgoglioso di annunciare la sua nuova collaborazione con il Centro di Astrofisica dell’Università di Porto (CAUP) per sostenere AstroCamp 2017, un programma accademico estivo, per studenti di scuola superiore, incentrato sull’astronomia. L’AstroCamp estivo 2017 si terrà dal 6 al 20 agosto nel Nord del Portogallo, presso il Centro per l’Educazione e l’Interpretazione Ambientale nell'area protetta del Corno de Bico. Il 25 febbraio gli organizzatori terranno un webcast per fornire ulteriori informazioni ai possibili candidati e alle loro famiglie.
Il campo mira a stimolare la curiosità e le capacità di pensiero critico, in particolare nell’area dell’astrofisica, e vuole riunire studenti con background ed esperienze di vita diversi. Gli alunni seguiranno due corsi, che prevedono lezioni quotidiane, alcuni compiti e un esame finale.
Tra le attività principali del programma di quest’anno:
- Sessioni di osservazione astronomica, sia a occhio nudo sia con telescopi, inclusa una sessione che coincide con il picco della pioggia di meteore delle Perseidi;
- Conversazioni via Skype con astronomi e fisici di Paesi diversi;
- Un progetto computazionale che permette agli studenti di lavorare con i dati dei migliori telescopi del mondo;
- Attività sociali, come escursioni, sport, servizi per la comunità, visione di film e documentari.
Durante il webcast che si terrà il 25 febbraio ci sarà una presentazione di una ex studentessa che descriverà la sua esperienza nell’edizione del 2016 e saranno forniti maggiori dettagli sulle attività del campo, sulla domanda e il processo di selezione. Puoi trovare ulteriori informazioni sul sito web Astronomy Day. La data di scadenza per registrarsi al webcast è il 23 febbraio.
L’AstroCamp è aperto agli studenti di tutti i Paesi dell’Unione Europea che frequentano uno degli ultimi tre anni di scuola superiore (cioè quelli nati nel 1999, 2000 e 2001). La lingua di lavoro utilizzata durante il campo è l’inglese. Il numero di partecipanti è limitato, quindi gli studenti saranno selezionati in base al merito e al potenziale accademico. Gli eventuali partecipanti sono invitati a visitare il sito web dell’AstroCamp per i dettagli sulla domanda, che include una lettera di motivazione, una lettera di referenze e un certificato con gli ultimi risultati accademici del candidato. Per l’AstroCamp di quest’anno, si potrà inviare la candidatura dall’1 al 30 aprile 2017. I candidati preselezionati saranno invitati a fare un colloquio via Skype, nel week-end del 27-28 maggio.
Gli studenti portoghesi selezionati parteciperanno al campo gratuitamente. Quelli provenienti da altri Paesi dovranno pagare una quota di iscrizione di circa € 400 per coprire il costo delle spese in Portogallo (pensione completa, supervisione di uno staff tecnico, tutte le attività al campo e il materiale, trasporto da e per l’aeroporto di Porto e assicurazione). La quota non include i costi del viaggio dalla propria residenza all’aeroporto di Porto.
Il candidato con i requisiti migliori proveniente da uno degli Stati Membri dell’ESO vincerà una borsa di studio offerta dall’ESO per coprire le spese del campo.
La selezione dei partecipanti si terrà poco dopo i colloqui e il vincitore della borsa di studio dell’ESO sarà reso noto intorno al 5 giugno. I partecipanti dovranno confermare la loro presenza e completare la documentazione richiesta entro il 14 giugno. Il regolamento completo di questa edizione è disponibile sul sito web del campo.
