Acompáñenos mientras nos dirigimos a la sede de ESO en Garching (Alemania), gracias a este vídeo grabado con un dron a principios de diciembre.
A pesar de que hoy la oficina está bastante tranquila, por lo general la sede central de ESO está repleta de personal científico, de ingeniería y de administración, trabajando en armonía en todo lo relacionado con la investigación astronómica, desde el diseño y desarrollo de telescopios hasta el archivo y análisis de datos. Y, por supuesto, el departamento de comunicación también pone su granito de arena.
El personal de ESO trabaja en edificios especialmente diseñados y galardonados que, aunque a veces crean algo de confusión al moverse entre ellos, contienen una gran cantidad de detalles. Pueden ver que el punto en que se encuentran los edificios circulares planos está rodeado por un patio circular con un diámetro de exactamente 8,2 metros, el tamaño de los espejos del Very Large Telescope, ubicado en el Observatorio Paranal. Además, el edificio técnico –el oscuro edificio cilíndrico del fondo– tiene un diámetro que coincide con el tamaño del espejo de 39,3 metros del Extremely Large Telescope.
El Planetario y Centro de Visitantes que lo acompaña, visto desde arriba, parece dos estrellas orbitando entre sí -un sistema en el que una de estas estrellas recoge materia de la otra, por lo que tendrá un final explosivo en forma de supernova-. Por tanto, parece apropiado que el centro se llame ESO Supernova.
