Apertura del concurso Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2020

El Real Observatorio de Greenwich, en asociación con Insight Investment y la publicación BBC Sky at Night, ha dado a conocer las fechas clave para el concurso Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2020; la búsqueda global que lleva a cabo cada año para encontrar las vistas más hermosas y espectaculares del cosmos, ya sean sorprendentes imágenes de vastas galaxias a millones de años luz de distancia, o impresionantes fotografías del cielo nocturno más cerca de nosotros. ESO colabora con el concurso 2020 proporcionando un juez perteneciente a su Departamento de Comunicaciones.
Actualmente en su décimo segunda edición, esta popular competencia se abre el 13 de enero de 2020, y brinda la oportunidad de ganar un gran premio de £10.000. Los participantes podrán presentar, hasta el viernes 6 de marzo de 2020, un máximo de diez imágenes en las diversas categorías del concurso a través del sitio www.rmg.co.uk/astrocomp.
El concurso Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2020 abarca nueve categorías principales:
· Auroras: fotografías que muestran las auroras boreales y australes.
· Galaxias: objetos del espacio profundo fuera de la Vía Láctea, incluyendo galaxias, cúmulos de galaxias y asociaciones estelares.
· Nuestra Luna: imágenes de la Luna, incluyendo eclipses lunares y ocultaciones de planetas.
· Nuestro Sol: imágenes del Sol, incluyendo eclipses solares y tránsitos astronómicos.
· Las personas y el espacio: fotografías del cielo nocturno que incluyen personas o un elemento de interés humano.
· Planetas, Cometas y Asteroides: todo lo demás presente en nuestro Sistema solar, incluyendo planetas y sus satélites, cometas, asteroides y otras formas de residuos zodiacales.
· Vistas del cielo: imágenes de paisajes campestres, marinos y urbanos, donde destacan el cielo nocturno o crepuscular.
· Estrellas y Nebulosas: objetos del espacio profundo dentro de la Vía Láctea, incluyendo estrellas, cúmulos de estrellas, remanentes de supernova, nebulosas y otros fenómenos intergalácticos.
· Joven Astrofotógrafo del Año: fotografías captadas por astrónomos principiantes menores de 16 años.
Además, el concurso cuenta con dos premios especiales: El premio Sir Patrick Moore al Mejor Novato, se otorga a la mejor fotografía captada por un astrofotógrafo aficionado que haya iniciado su pasatiempo en el último año y que no haya presentado imágenes al concurso anteriormente; y el premio Annie Maunder a la Innovación Fotográfica, para las imágenes procesadas empleando datos de código abierto preexistentes.
Tres nuevos jueces se suman este año al panel: la Dra. Emily Drabek-Maunder (astrónoma del Real Observatorio de Greenwich), László Francsics (astrofotógrafo y ganador general del concurso Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2019) y Susan Derges (artista).
Las fotografías que participen en el concurso deben presentarse hasta el 6 de marzo de 2020 (12pm GMT / 1pm CET), y las imágenes ganadoras se exhibirán en la exposición anual que se lleva a cabo en el Museo Marítimo Nacional. La entrada a la exhibición es pagada.
Los fotógrafos pueden ingresar al sitio en línea visitando www.rmg.co.uk/astrocomp y cada participante puede presentar hasta diez imágenes en el concurso.
