Disfruta de los cielos más oscuros del mundo en el Día de los Patrimonios de Chile 2025

Este sábado 24 y domingo 25 de mayo, Chile celebrará una nueva edición del Día de los Patrimonios, iniciativa que abre gratuitamente las puertas de instituciones y espacios significativos del país, para que las personas puedan descubrir y valorar distintos rincones públicos y privados del patrimonio cultural chileno.
ESO se sumará nuevamente a esta celebración con actividades en sus sitios de observación en las regiones de Antofagasta y Coquimbo, para que las personas puedan apreciar estas ventanas únicas al universo. A la oferta habitual de las visitas de fin de semana, ESO, junto con Sernatur y la Ilustre Municipalidad de Taltal, añadirán buses de acercamiento, actividades especiales, regalos y acceso a zonas que no forman parte del recorrido habitual por los observatorios de ESO.
El sábado 24 de mayo, en la Región de Antofagasta, ESO abrirá las puertas del Observatorio Paranal, el sitio astronómico más oscuro del mundo [1], en dos turnos. En colaboración con Sernatur, se habilitará un tour matutino que incluirá un bus gratuito de ida y vuelta desde Antofagasta, además de observaciones solares con un telescopio habilitado al final del recorrido. En colaboración con la Ilustre Municipalidad de Taltal, se habilitará un tour vespertino con bus de ida y vuelta desde esa ciudad, que incluirá una visita durante la apertura de los telescopios de Paranal y una sesión de observación del cielo nocturno a simple vista, a cargo de Laura Ventura, coordinadora del equipo de comunicación de ESO.
En la Región de Coquimbo, ESO abrirá las puertas del Observatorio La Silla las mañanas del sábado 24 y domingo 25 de mayo. Sernatur y ESO dispondrán de buses de ida y vuelta desde el centro de la ciudad de La Serena (Matta 461), para facilitar la llegada de los visitantes. Durante estas visitas, el público podrá conocer los telescopios más importantes del observatorio: el NTT y el telescopio de 3,6 metros de ESO. Además, y con motivo del Día de los Patrimonios, las personas visitarán la sala de control de estos instrumentos para ver cómo se opera y revisa el estado de los telescopios durante el día, y recibirán un kit conmemorativo como recuerdo de la jornada.
“Conocer estos cielos y estos telescopios es una experiencia inigualable. Esperamos que el público pueda disfrutar de este patrimonio único en el mundo, el cual necesita ser preservado para que las generaciones futuras puedan seguir asombrándose y avanzando en la comprensión del universo", dijo Itziar de Gregorio, astrónoma y representante de ESO en Chile.
Para asistir a estas actividades, se requerirá inscripción previa. Para las visitas al Observatorio La Silla, la Oficina Regional de Sernatur de Coquimbo asignará directamente los cupos para cada jornada.
Los cupos para las visitas matutinas al Observatorio Paranal serán asignados por la Oficina Regional de Sernatur de Antofagasta, mientras que, para el recorrido vespertino, las inscripciones deberán realizarse directamente en las oficinas de la Municipalidad de Taltal. ESO sorteará entradas a través de sus redes sociales durante los próximos días. Las fechas y mecanismos de participación serán informados oportunamente por esa misma vía.
[1] Un estudio de Falchi y colaboradores, publicado en 2023 en la revista Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, comparó la contaminación lumínica en los 28 principales observatorios astronómicos, llegando a la conclusión de que Paranal era el lugar de observación más oscuro de entre los estudiados.
