Anunciados vencedores do concurso Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2018

O Observatório Real de Greenwic anunciou os resultados do seu concurso de fotografia extremamente popular, uma competição anual que premeia as mais bonitas imagens do cosmos.
Os vencedores do concurso Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year foram anunciados numa cerimónia de entrega de prémios que decorreu no Observatório Real de Greenwich, no Reino Unido, no dia 23 de Outubro de 2018. Todas as fotografias vencedoras estarão expostas numa celebração retrospectiva dos primeiros dez anos desta competição na nova Galeria Fotográfica do Museu Marítimo Nacional inglês a partir de 24 de Outubro de 2018. O ESO junta-se a esta competição como parceiro, contribuindo com um membro do júri do seu Departamento de Educação e Divulgação Científica (ePOD), Oana Sandu.
O vencedor global deste ano foi Brad Goldpaint dos EUA, que recebeu um prémio no valor de £10 000. A sua imagem Transport the Soul foi tirada em Moab, EUA.
“Quando o crescente da Lua nasceu, revelou-se-nos a vasta paisagem das colinas de xisto situadas por baixo de nós. (...) A galáxia de Andrómeda, o crescente da Lua, a Via Láctea e a posição do fotógrafo combinaram-se para criar um retrato harmonioso dum fotógrafo noturno a trabalhar,” assim descreveu Brad a sua fotografia.

Paisagens do céu — imagens de paisagens urbanas, campestres ou marítimas que mostrem o crepúsculo ou o céu noturno com a Via Láctea, chuva de meteoritos, cometas, conjunções, nascer de constelações, halos ou nuvens noctilucentes, juntamente com elementos terrestres
- Ferenc Szémár (Hungria) com Circumpolar (Vencedor)
- Chuanjin Su (China) com Eclipsed Moon Trail (2º Lugar)
- Ruslan Merzlyakov (Letónia) com Midnight Glow over Limfjord (Menção Honrosa)
Auroras — fotografias que mostrem atividade auroral sententrional ou austral
- Nicolas Lefaudeux (França) com Speeding on the Aurora Lane (Vencedor)
- Matthew James Turner (RU) com Castlerigg Stone Circle (2º Lugar)
- Mikkel Beiter (Dinamarca) com Aurorascape (Menção Honrosa)
Pessoas e Espaço — fotografias do céu noturno que incluam pessoas ou elementos humanos
