Assessoria de Imprensa: Conferência de imprensa para anunciar novo planetário e centro de exposições na Baviera

No dia 3 de dezembro de 2013 às 11:00 (hora da Europa Central), o ESO dará uma conferência de imprensa em Garching bei München, Alemanha, para anunciar a construção de um centro de exposições e planetário na Sede do ESO, na Baviera.
O novo edifício, destinado à divulgação da astronomia, está a ser financiado por meio de uma doação feita pela Klaus Tschira Stiftung, uma fundação alemã que apoia as ciências naturais, a matemática e as ciências de computadores. O novo centro será gerido com fundos operacionais do ESO e foi pensado com o intuito de incentivar as pessoas a olhar para as estrelas, dar a conhecer a importância da astronomia e os seus efeitos na vida do dia-a-dia.
O projeto baseia-se numa ideia que surgiu da cooperação entre o ESO e o Instituto de Estudos Teóricos de Heidelberg - o instituto de investigação do Klaus Tschira Stiftung. Os trabalhos de construção começarão em 2014.
O interesse do público pela astronomia e ciências espaciais tem vindo a aumentar nos últimos anos. Com a recente conclusão da construção do Observatório ALMA no Chile e um fluxo constante de novas descobertas astronómicas feitas dos outros locais do ESO, La Silla e Paranal, o ESO encontra-se numa posição líder no âmbito da educação e divulgação astronómica, chegando a um público cada vez mais curioso.
O novo edifício simbolizará um sistema binário de estrelas quase a atingir a fase de supernova. O design deste edifício elegante foi concebido por Klaus Tschira, com a ajuda da firma de arquitetura sediada em Darmstadt, Bernhardt + Partner, que desenhou anteriormente a Casa da Astronomia em Heidelberg. O novo centro de visitantes do ESO atuará como uma infraestrutura irmã da Casa da Astronomia, a qual foi fundada pelo Klaus Tschira Stiftung e pela Sociedade Max Planck.
O novo centro contará com uma exposição e um planetário de vanguarda de tamanho médio com cúpula completa, que exibirá espectáculos feitos à medida pelo ESO e por outras organizações líderes mundiais. Haverá também salas de conferências que permitirão a realização de uma variedade de aulas, workshops e conferências destinadas tanto ao público como a eventos académicos.
