O Calendário ESO de 2013 já está disponível

Baseado no sucesso dos últimos anos, o ESO produziu uma edição de 2013 do calendário do ESO. Este foi, no passado, um dos produtos impressos mais apreciados do ESO e a nova edição está disponível para download gratuito em formato PDF e para venda na loja do ESO.
Cada mês mostra uma das melhores imagens do céu austral obtidas com os telescópios do ESO em 2012. O calendário inclui também imagens impressionantes dos numerosos telescópios do ESO propriamente ditos, contrastando com a remota paisagem chilena, o que chama a atenção dos visitantes de forma garantida. Cada imagem relembra uma obra de arte, mostrando o contraste entre a natureza inóspita que rodeia os observatórios do ESO no Chile e as infraestruturas e telescópios construídos pelo homem e usados para perscrutar os céus.
Os destaques do calendário vão a imagem do mês de Setembro, que retrata a bolha cósmica da Nebulosa do Capacete de Thor – alvo selecionado e observado pelo público pela primeira vez utilizando o VLT, no âmbito das celebrações do 50º aniversário do ESO e para o mês de Dezembro, que traz as antenas do ALMA, posicionadas sob o esplendor da Via Láctea. Esta imagem demonstra bem as condições de observação inigualáveis existentes a 5000 metros de altitude no planalto do Chajnantor, na região do deserto chileno do Atacama.
Outro destaque do calendário é a própria imagem da capa – uma imagem infravermelha da Nebulosa Carina, uma região de formação estelar grande e brilhante do céu austral, obtida com o VLT do ESO.

O calendário mede 42 x 42 centímetros e possui 14 páginas, com fundo de cartão. É entregue numa caixa de cartão. O calendário é vendido a 4,99 euros na loja do ESO, até ao stock existente. A data de envio estimada é 15 de Novembro de 2012.
