Astronomowie użyli instrumentu MUSE na należącym do ESO Bardzo Dużym Teleskopie (VLT) w Chile oraz należącego do NASA/ESA Kosmicznego Teleskopu Hubble’a do wykonania najbardziej precyzyjnego testu ogólnej teorii względności Einsteina poza Drogą Mleczną. Pobliska galaktyka ESO 325-G004 działa jako silna soczewka grawitacyjna, zaburzając światło od odległej galaktyki znajdującej się poza nią i wytwarza pierścień Einsteina wokół swojego centrum. Porównując masę ESO 325-G004 z objętością przestrzeni wokół niej, astronomowie sprawdzili, iż grawitacja w tych astronomicznych skalach długości zachowuje się zgodnie z przewidywaniami teorii względności. Wyklucza to niektóre alternatywne teorie grawitacji.
