ESO ogłasza wsparcie dla letniego obozu AstroCamp
Wygraj astronomiczną wycieczkę do Portugalii

ESO z dumą ogłasza nowy projekt współpracy z Centre for Astrophysics of the University of Porto (CAUP) w ramach wsparcia AstroCamp 2017, letniego programu akademickiego dla uczniów szkół średnich dotyczącego astronomii. Letni AstroCamp 2017 będzie trwał od 6 do 20 sierpnia w północnej Portugalii, w Centre for Environmental Education and Interpretation of the Corno de Bico Protected Landscape. 25 lutego organizatorzy zorganizują webcast, w trakcie którego przedstawią więcej informacji dla potencjalnych kandydatów i ich rodzin.
Celem obozy jest stymulowanie ciekawości uczniów i umiejętności krytycznego myślenia, szczególnie w dziedzinie astrofizyki, a także zgromadzenie razem uczniów z różnych środowisk i o różnych życiowych doświadczeniach. Uczniowie odbędą dwa kursy w postaci codziennych lekcji, otrzymają trochę materiałów, będzie też końcowy egzamin.
W tegorocznym programie zawarto m.in. następujące tematy:
- Sesje obserwacji astronomicznych, zarówno okiem nieuzbrojonym, jak i przy pomocy teleskopów — w tym sesja w trakcie maksimum roju meteorów Perseidy.
- Rozmowy na Skype z astronomami i fizyka z różnych krajów.
- Projekt obliczeniowy, który pozwoli uczniom pracować na danych z najlepszych teleskopów na świecie.
- Dodatkowe aktywności, wycieczki, gry sportowe, aktywności społecznościowe, pokazy filmowe.
Webcast zorganizowany 25 lutego będzie obejmować prezentację przez uczennicę, która uczestniczyła we wcześniejszej edycji obozu (opisze ona swoje doświadczenia z 2016 roku), będą podane informacje o planie obozu oraz procesie składania aplikacji i wyboru uczestników. Więcej informacji można znaleźć na witrynie Astronomy Day. Końcowy termin rejestracji udziału webcaście mija 23 lutego 2017 r.
AstroCamp jest otwarty dla uczniów z Krajów Unii Europejskiej uczących się w jednej z trzech ostatnich klas szkół edukacji szczebla przeduniwersyteckiego (np. urodzonych w latach 1999, 2000 i 2001). Językiem obozu będzie angielski. Liczba uczestników jest ograniczona, zatem uczniowie będą wybierani na podstawie kryteriów szkolnych i potencjału. Zainteresowani uczniowie powinni odwiedzić stronę internetową AstroCamp, gdzie znajdą szczegóły dotyczące proces aplikowania, który obejmuje list motywacyjny, rekomendację i najnowsze oceny szkolne. Nabór zgłoszeń będzie otwarty od 1 do 30 kwietnia 2017 r. Wstępnie zakwalifikowani kandydaci zostaną zaproszenia na rozmowy na Skypie, które odbędą się podczas weekendu 27-28 maja 2017 r.
Uczniowie z Portugalii wybrani do udziału w obozie nie ponoszą żadnych opłat. Dla uczniów z innych krajów opłata rejestracyjna wynosi około €400 i pokrywa wydatki ucznia w Portugalii (pełne wyżywienie, opieka profesjonalnej kadry, wszystkie aktywności i materiały obozowe, transport pomiędzy lotniskiem w Porta, a miejscem obozu, ubezpieczenie). Opłata nie pokrywa kosztów podróży ucznia z miejsca zamieszkania na lotnisko w Porto.
Kandydat z najlepszą aplikacją spośród Krajów Członkowskich ESO spełniających kryteria, wygra stypendium od ESO pokrywające opłatę za obóz.
Ostateczny wybór uczestników obozu nastąpi krótko po rozmowach. Stypendium od ESO zostanie ogłoszone około 5 czerwca 2017 r. Uczestnicy będą musieli potwierdzić chęć udziału w obozie i dokończyć składanie wymaganych dokumentów do 14 czerwca 2017 r.
