ESO cumple 50 años y lo celebra con “picnic astronómico” en Santiago
Las actividades serán el 6 de octubre en el Planetario Usach

El año 2012 marca el 50 aniversario de la creación del Observatorio Europeo Austral (European Southern Observatory, ESO), la organización astronómica líder en la exploración del cielo del hemisferio sur.
Para celebrar este hito, ESO en conjunto con la Fundación Planetario, han organizado el evento “picnic astronómico: 50 años de ESO”. Esta actividad está programada para el día 6 de octubre, entre las 14:00 y las 17:00 horas, en el Planetario de la Universidad de Santiago y contempla una serie de actividades para todo público: observaciones solares con telescopios, taller de volantines, juegos de burbujas, monitores y materiales gratuitos con información sobre ESO.
Durante el evento se estrenará la muestra “Universo Asombroso”, una exhibición con increíbles imágenes tomadas por los observatorios de ESO en Chile como Cerro Paranal, ALMA y La Silla. Esta muestra fue especialmente creada para conmemorar los 50 años de ESO, y se acaba de presentar en paralelo en Chile y en Europa.
Además se estrenará la película “Europe to the Stars” (Europa viaja a las estrellas) con funciones rotativas, un viaje audiovisual por la historia, descubrimientos y tecnología que ESO ha desarrollado a lo largo de sus 50 años de historia en la exploración de los cielos australes.
A partir de las 19:00 horas comenzarán dos actividades más. En primer lugar, el ingeniero electrónico del radiotelescopio APEX Oriel Arriagada dará una charla sobre la historia y futuro de ESO en la cúpula del Planetario. Más tarde, el magíster en astrofísica Basilio Solís introducirá la actividad estrella de la noche: la observación astronómica con telescopios portátiles. Durante la actividad, astrónomos ESO y monitores del Planetario guiarán a los asistentes en la observación de diferentes objetos visibles en el cielo de Santiago.
El valor de las entradas es el siguiente:
- Picnic Astronómico (14:00-17:00): 2.500 pesos por persona (niños y/o adultos). Incluye funciones audiovisuales, la película “Europe to the Stars”, talleres, juegos astronómicos y observación solar.
- Observación Astronómica (a partir de las 19:00): 2.500 pesos por persona (niños y/o adultos). Cupo máximo 300 personas. Incluye charlas y observación guiada con telescopios al anochecer.
- Picnic + Observación Astronómica: 3.500 pesos por persona (niños y/o adultos).
