Wide-field view of the sky around the red giant star L2 Puppis

This image shows the region of sky in the southern constellation of Puppis surrounding the red giant star L2 Puppis. This rich area of the Milky Way includes glowing red clouds of hydrogen as well as some dusty clouds known as cometary globules. This picture was assembled from images in the Digitized Sky Survey 2.
