Kansainvälinen tähtitieteilijäryhmä on muodostanut yli 84 miljoonan tähden luettelon Linnunradan keskiosista käyttäen huikeaa, yhdeksän gigapikselin kuvaa ESO:n Paranalin observatorion VISTA-infrapunakartoitusteleskoopilta. Tämä valtava tietokanta käsittää tähtiä yli kymmenkertaisesti aikaisempiin tutkimuksiin verrattuna ja on merkittävä askel eteenpäin kotigalaksimme ymmärtämiseksi. Kuva antaa katsojille uskomattoman, zoomattavan näkymän galaksimme keskiosiin. Se on niin suuri, että tulostettuna kirjoille tyypillisellä tarkkuudella se olisi 9 metriä leveä ja 7 metriä korkea.
