Kesäleiri AstroCamp 2019 ESO stipendin voittaja on julkaistu

AstroCamp 2019 stipendin voittaja on päätetty. Stipendin tarjosi ESO. Yhteensä leiri keräsi lähes 100 hakemusta 18 eri maasta. Suurin osa hakemuksista tuli ESO jäsenmaista. ESO:lla on ilo kertoa, että Carolina Chinigò, Italialainen opiskelija, joka tekee kansainvälistä kandidaatin tutkintoa Yhdistyneessä Kuningaskunnassa, voitti ESO:n stipendin.
ESO:n stipendi kattaa leirimaksun, sisältäen täysihoito majoituksen, leiri aktiviteetit, kansainväliset matkat Porton lentokentälle ja pois, sekä vakuutuksen. Tämän stipendin avulla ESO on iloinen saadessaan mahdollistaa Carolinalle helpotusta osallistua tähän mahdollisesti uran ratkaisevaan tapahtumaan.
Yhteensä 18 opiskelijaa 15 ja 18 vuoden väliltä kutsuttiin osallistumaan tämän vuoden AstroCamppiin: 11 tyttöä ja 7 poikaa Brasiliasta, Saksasta, Italiasta, Puolasta, Portugalista, Espanjasta, Ruotsista ja Yhdistyneistä Kuningaskunnista.
ESO:n tukema kesäleiri AstroCamp on akateeminen ohjelma, joka on suunnattu tähtitieteelle ja fysiikalle. Sen organisoi Centre for Astrophysics of the University of Porto (CAUP). Leiri pidetään 4.-18.8.2019 Centre for Environmental Education and Interpretation of the Corno de Bico Protected Landscapessa, joka on eristäytynyt ja rauhallinen paikka stressistä ja urbaaneista keskustoista.
Kahden viikon aikana leirillä opiskelijat käyvät kursseilla suhteellisuusteoriasta, tähtien fysiikasta, galakseista ja universumistamme kokonaisuudessaan. Lisäksi leirillä havaitaan yö tähtitaivasta käyttäen sekä paljasta silmää, että myös teleskooppeja. Leirillä myös ollaan yhteydessä tähtitieteilijöihin ja fyysikkoihin eri maista netti yhteydellä. Kaiken tämän lisäksi leirillä myös osallistutaan laskennalliseen projektiin, jossa käytetään dataa yksistä maailman parhaista kaukoputkista ja osallistutaan archaeoastronomiseen kaivaukseen. Sosiaaliset aktiviteetit kuten patikointi, urheilu ja elokuva/dokumentti sessiot lisäävät entisestään leirin viihtyisyyttä ja mieltä rikastuttavaa kokemusta.
