Space Scoop käynnistää sarjakuvakilpailun

"Universe Awareness"-projekti aloitettiin kymmenen vuotta sitten. Tämän vuosipäivän kunniaksi ja juhlistaakseen uuden "Space Scoop"-verkkosivun julkaisemista julistetaan maailmanlaajuinen kilpailu, missä "Space Scoop":in lukijoita kannustetaan luomaan oma "Space Scoop"-sarjakuva. Space Scoop antaa pohjan sarjakuvan tekemiselle ja voit valita vapaasti jonkin julkaistun tekstin ja sen pohjalta voit antaa oman luovuutesi loistaa.
Voit käyttää perinteisiä tapoja, kuten vesivärejä, kyniä, mosaiikkia tai liituja, mutta myös digitaaliset työt eri ohjelmilla, kuten Paintilla, GIMP:illa tai Adobe Illustratorilla ovat tervetulleita. Jokaisesta osallistujamaasta valitaan kolme voittajaa ikäkategorioissa 8-11 vuotiaat, 12-15 vuotiaat ja 16-18 vuotiaat. Jokainen voittaja saa kosmisen tavarapaketin ja todistuksen. Lisäksi voittajatyöt ovat esillä kansainvälisellä "Universe Awareness"-verkkosivulla.
Eri maiden voittajatyöt arvioidaan uudelleen kansainvälisen tuomariston toimesta, ketkä valitsevat yhden voittajan, joka saa palkinnoksi KANO tietokoneen. Kolme seuraavaa saavat mukaansa Galileoscoopin.
Kaikki 8-18 vuotiaat voivat lähettää työnsä useilla eri kielillä ja kilpailun verkkosivulla on lueteltu kaikki kielet joilla työt voi lähettää. Kilpailu alkaa 20.5.2016 ja päättyy 31.8.2016. Lähetetyissä töissä arvostellaan omaperäisyyttä, valitun aiheen tulkintaa, tekniikan luovuutta, rakennetta ja työn yleistä taiteellisuutta. Voittajien nimet julkistetaan 30.9.2016. Osallistujien tulee täyttää yhteydenottolomake, minkä opettaja, vanhempi tai huoltaja tarkastaa ja allekirjoittaa. Työt voi lähettää paperiversioina tai sähköisesti ja ne lähetetään oman maan kilpailunjärjestäjälle. Sähköiset työt hyväksytään jpg, png tai pdf muodossa. Tiedostokoko saa olla maksimissaan1MB.

Universe Awareness (UNAWE) käyttää tähtitieteen jännitäviä aiheita inspiroidakseen 4-10 vuotiaita lapsia, ja erityisesti lapsia joiden lähtökohdat ovat vaikeat. Tavoitteena on herättää heidän kinnostustaan tieteeseen ja teknologiaan. UNAWE käyttää Universumia ja sen kaikenkattavuutta edistääkseen eri kulttuurien hyväksyntää ja luodakseen kokemuksen yhteisestä maailmankansalaisuudesta. UNAWE:n toiminta kattaa opettajakoulutuksen, laadukkaan opetusmateriaalin tuottamisen ja tieteidenvälisen verkoston. UNAWE:a koordinoi Leidenin yliopisto Alankomaissa.
Space Awareness on kansainvälinen projekti, mikä tähtää avaruustutkimuksen kiehtovuuden käyttämiseen opiskelijoiden kiinnostuksen herättämiseksi tieteeseen ja teknologiaan, sekä siihen että he valitsisivat tulevaisuudessa uran avaruuteen liittyviltä aloilta. Tavoitteena on myös maailmankansalaisuuden kokemuksen herättäminen. Saavuttaakseen nämä tavoitteet projekti tarjoaa useita eri työkaluja ja aktiviteetteja, joiden avulla lapset, teini-ikäiset ja opettajat saadaan mukaan avaruuteen liittyviin aktiviteetteihin. Projekti tuottaa erilaisia aktiviteetteja, jotka esimerkiksi pitävät sisällään ammattimaisia kehitystyökaluja, opetuksellisia resursseja, "Space Scoop"-eja, kansalaistiedettä ja pelejä, sekä avaruuteen liittyviä uratarinoita. "Space Awareness":ia koordinoi Leidenin yliopisto Alankomaissa.
Space Scoopin rahoituslähteinä ovat: Euroopan yhteisön seitsemäs puiteohjelma, sopimus n° 263325, Horizon 2020 ohjelman sopimus n° 6386523, Euroopan eteläinen observatorio (ESO) ja Japanin kansallinen tähtitieteen observatorio (NAOJ).
Euroopan eteläinen observatorio (ESO) oli ensimmäisiä tähtitieteen instituutteja, ketkä liittyivät "Space Scoop":iin ja sen lehdistötiedotteen käännettiin myös “lasten kielelle”.
