Sort hul blæser stor boble

Ved at kombinere observationer med ESO’s Very Large Telescope og NASA’s Chandra røntgenteleskop har astronomer opdaget de kraftigste jetstråler, der nogensinde er set fra et sort hul, som kun er få gange tungere end Solen – et stellart sort hul. Objektet, der også er kendt som en mikrokvasar, blæser en enorm boble af varm gas. Med en størrelse på 1.000 lysår er den dobbelt så stor som andre tilsvarende bobler og selve mikrokvasaren er mange gange mere kraftfuld end nogen anden kendt mikrokvasar. Opdagelsen er beskrevet i denne uges udgave af tidsskriftet Nature.
”Vi har været forbløffede over, hvor meget energi det sorte hul har tilført gassen,” siger hovedforfatter Manfred Pakull. ”Dette sorte hul er kun nogle få gange tungere end Solen, men er en reel miniudgave af de mest kraftfulde kvasarer og radiogalakser, der indeholder sorte huller, som er nogle få millioner gange tungere end Solen.”
Sorte huller er kendt for at frigive en uhyre mængde energi, når de opsluger stof. Det er blevet antaget, at det meste af energien kommer ud i form af stråling, overvejende røntgenstråling. Men de nye resultater viser, at nogle sorte huller kan frigive mindst lige så meget energi og måske endda meget mere i form af jetstråler af hurtige partikler. De hurtige jetstråler støder ind i den omkringliggende interstellare gas, varmer den op og får den til at udvide sig. Boblen, der på denne måde pustes op, indeholder en blanding af varm gas og ultrahurtige partikler ved forskellige temperaturer. Observationer i flere energibånd (synligt lys, radio, røntgen) hjælper astronomerne til at beregne den samlede opvarmning af omgivelserne, som det sorte hul er skyld i.
Astronomerne har kunnet observere de steder, hvor jetstrålerne rammer ind i den interstellare gas omkring det sorte hul og har afsløret, at boblen af varm gas pustes op med en hastighed på næsten en million kilometer i timen.
”Længden af jetstrålerne i NGC 7793 er utrolig i forhold til størrelsen af det sorte hul, de kommer fra,” siger medforfatter Robert Soria [1]. ”Hvis det sorte hul var på størrelse med en fodbold, ville hver jetstråle strække sig fra Jorden og ud forbi Plutos bane.”
Denne forskning vil hjælpe astronomer med at forstå ligheden mellem små sorte huller, der dannes af eksploderede stjerner, og supertunge sorte huller i galaksers centre. Meget kraftige jetstråler er blevet set fra supertunge sorte huller, men de menes at være mere sjældne for den mindre mikrokvasar-variant. Den nye opdagelse viser, at mange af dem måske bare ikke er blevet opdaget endnu.
Det gas-blæsende sorte hul ligger 12 millioner lysår væk i udkanten af spiralgalaksen NGC 7793 (eso0914b). Ud fra boblens størrelse og udvidelseshastighed har astronomerne fundet ud af, at jetstråle-aktiviteten har været i gang i mindst 200.000 år.

[1] Astronomer har endnu ikke nogen mulighed for at måle størrelsen af selve det sorte hul. Det mindste stellare sorte hul, der hidtil er opdaget, har en radius på ca. 15 km. Et gennemsnitligt stellart sort hul, der er omkring 10 gange tungere end Solen, har en radius på omkring 30 km, mens et ”stort” stellart sort hul kan have en radius på op til 300 km. Det er stadig langt mindre end jetstrålerne, der strækker sig ud til flere hundrede lysår på hver side af det sorte hul, svarende til flere tusinde millioner millioner km!
