COVID-19: Foranstaltninger hos ESO

Opdatering (9. april 2020):
ESO har besluttet at udvide de implementerede foranstaltninger mod COVID-19-pandemien indtil tidligst 3. maj. Størstedelen af ESO’s ansatte i Tyskland og Chile fortsætter med at arbejde hjemmefra, observatorierne forbliver i nedlukket og i sikret tilstand, og ingen videnskabelige observationer finder sted på observatorierne. Alle arbejdsrelaterede rejser er aflyst med undtagelse af pendling til og fra observatoriesteder, hvor små vedligeholdelseshold i øjeblikket arbejder. Besøgende er ikke tilladt på nogen af ESO’s lokaliteter inklusive ESO Supernova i Garching i Tyskland, som forbliver lukket.
ESO fortsætter med at følge COVID-19-udviklingen i Chile og Tyskland og har en plan klar til at åbne for funktionerne, når situationen tillader det.
Opdatering (2. april 2020):
Overgangen til nedlukket og sikret tilstand på alle ESO’s observatoriesites blev gennemført i sidste uge, og videnskabelige observationer er nu sat på pause. Et minimalt hold af ansatte sikrer hver facilitets sikkerhed samt de tilbageblivende medarbejderes velbefindende.
Opdatering (20. marts 2020):
ESO’s ledelse har besluttet, at alle videnskabelige operationer gradvist skal lukkes på alle ESO’s faciliteter som følge af COVID-19-udviklingen. ESO prioriterer de ansattes velvære og sikkerhed, og derfor reduceres også antallet af mennesker ved Paranal, La Silla og APEX. For at sikre faciliteternes- og de tilbageblivende ansattes sikkerhed vil ESO’s sites gå i såkaldt sikker tilstand med minimal bemanding.
Ledelsen ved ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array), som er partner med ESO, har også besluttet sig for at lukke observatoriet på Chiles Chajnantorplateau. Det samlede ALMA-observatorium har bekendtgjort lukningen af videnskabelige operationer samt at observatoriet lukker ned indtil videre.
Astronomer bør tjekke ESO’s videnskabssider for information til det videnskabelige samfund.

I lyset af COVID-19-udviklingen har ESO besluttet af implementere yderligere foranstaltninger i kampen mod pandemien. Vores højeste prioritet er medarbejdere og samfundets sikkerhed og velvære. Efter aflysningen af offentlige besøg og aktiviteter samt begrænsningen i arbejdsrelaterede rejser går ESO’s observatorier i begrænset driftstilstand, og derfor reduceres antallet af medarbejdere på ESO’s observatorier eller faciliteter, mens grundlæggende videnskabelige funktioner vedligeholdes. Vi bevæger os nu også hen imod hjemmearbejde for så mange ansatte, det er muligt for, i Garching, Tyskland, og Santiago, Chile.

ESO følger COVID-19’s globale spredning og gør foranstaltninger for at sikre medarbejdere og samfundets sikkerhed og velvære. Disse forholdsregler tages ud af forsigtighed: der er IKKE bekræftet COVID-19 ved nogen af ESO’s sites.
I Tyskland har ESO besluttet af lukke ESO Supernova Planetarium & Visitor Centre i resten af marts for at sikre medarbejdere- og besøgendes sikkerhed. Offentlige aktiviteter ved ESO’s hovedkvarter i Garching bliver også aflyst, heriblandt det planlagte Girls’ Day-arrangement.
I Chile, hvor ESO’s observatorier og Santiago-kontorer ligger, aflyser organisationen alle offentlige besøg ved La Silla og Paranal Observatorierne indtil videre. Offentlige aktiviteter ved Vitacura-Santiago-kontoret er også aflyst i resten af marts inklusive det planlagte Åbent Hus-arrangement (Open House Day).
Derudover arbejder ESO på at begrænse rejser for medarbejdere og gæster, heriblandt besøgende astronomer. Vi vil i stedet bruge fjerndeltagelse til internationale konferencer og begrænse arbejdsrelaterede rejser til steder, der anses for at være mission-kritiske og/eller tidskritiske. Besøgende bedes kontakte deres ESO-kontaktperson før deres rejse angående eventuel aflysning af besøget eller begivenheden, og - hvis det ikke er aflyst – hvilke forholdsregler de bør tage.
ESO vil fortsætte med at gøre foranstaltninger mod den globale sygdomsspredning, når det bliver nødvendigt, og organisationens tilgang til situationen vil være pragmatisk, fornuftig og fleksibel. Situationen bliver revurderet i løbet af de kommende uger, og hvis foranstaltningerne ændres, vil der komme mere information omkring ændringerne.
Vi håber på forståelse fra alle de, der må blive ramt af forholdsreglerne. Vi er fuldt engagerede i at prioritere velvære og sikkerhed højest.
