Tredje ESO Astronomilejr for udskolingen

Vind en gratis astronomitur til Alperne

ESO og vores Science Outreach Network ESON, som blandt andet også leverer disse oversættelser til dansk, samarbejder med Sterrenlab, som organiserer naturvidenskabelige uddannelses-events, om at arrangere den tredje ESO astronomilejr med temaet Solsystemet og exoplaneter. Lejren foregår i ugen 26. december 2015 til 1. januar 2016 på  Astronomical Observatory of the Autonomous Region of the Aosta Valley i Saint-Barthélemy, Nus, Italien. Der er adskillige partnere, der iblandt ESO, som bidrager med stipendier til de vindende ansøgere.

I løbet af opholdet vil deltagerne studere temaet Solsystemet og exoplaneterne ved astronomiforedrag, hands-on-aktiviteter og natteobservationer med observatoriets teleskoper og instrumenter. Der ud over er der sociale sammenkomster, vintersport og udflugter, som tilsammen gør lejropholdet til en uforglemmelig oplevelse for deltagerne. ESO er ansvarlig for det videnskabelige program, og sammen med adskillige andre partnere står ESO for foredragsholdere og studiemateriale.

Dette års program kommer blandt andet til at indeholde: forelæsninger om rummissioner til planeterne, opdagelsen af den første exoplanet, måling af afstanden til en asteroide og en tur til Matterhorn.

Deltagergebyret på 500€ dækker kost og ophold på vandrerhjemmet i Saint Barthèlemy, professionel supervision, alle studie- og fritidsaktiviteter, materaler, udflugter, lokaltransport og forsikringer. Der er fælles bustransport imellem observatoriet og lufthavnen Milano Malpensa. Beløbet dækker dog ikke rejseudgifter fra hjemmet til Malpensa eller til Saint Barthèlemy.

Der er plads til maksimalt 56 elever med aldre imellem 16 og 18 (fødselsdage i årene 1997-1999) fra the ESOs medlemsstater og de lande, hvor der er  ESO Science Outreach repræsentanter. Der er tillige et begrænset antal pladser for elever fra andre lande, men disse kan ikke modtage ESO stipendier.

Unge, som har lyst at ansøge skal udfylde et skema på lejrens hjemmeside, og desuden indsende en video. Videoen skal være på engelsk, og den må ikke vare mere end tre minutter. Temaet skal være "mit foretrukne astronomiske objekt/fænomen". Video og skema skal være indsendt inden 4. oktober 2015. Udtrækningen af vinderne af stipendierne, og besked om, hvem der i øvrigt er udvalgt til at deltage, sker den 16. oktober 2015. Deltagerne skal indsende endelig besked om de vil deltage inden 30. oktober 2015. På lejrens hjemmeside findes udvalgskriterier og andre oplysninger om at deltage.

Vinderne af ESOs stipendier bliver den, med det bedste oplæg fra et af ESOs medlemsstater eller fra et af ESON medlemslandene. Stipendiet dækker både deltagelse og transporten. Der er flere nationale partnere, som også ventes at tilbyde stipendier til de bedste ansøgere fra deres respektive lande, men indtil nu har ingen danske organisationer meldt sig.
