Nový snímek pořízený dalekohledem MPG/ESO, který pracuje na observatoři La Silla v Chile, zachycuje dvojici interagujících galaxií. NGC 1316 a její menší souputník NGC 1317 (vpravo) jsou k sobě tak blízko, že při pohybu prostorem dochází ke gravitačnímu narušování jejich tvaru. Tento pomalý kosmický tanec však pravděpodobně skončí tragédií – po komplikované kolizi větší galaxie tu menší úplně pohltí.
