Con la ayuda del Very Large Telescope, del Observatorio Europeo Austral (VLT de ESO), un equipo de astrónomos ha descubierto y estudiado en detalle la fuente más lejana de emisiones de radio conocida hasta la fecha. La fuente es un cuásar "radio-intenso", un objeto brillante con potentes chorros que emiten en longitudes de ondas de radio. Está tan lejos que su luz ha tardado 13.000 millones de años en llegar hasta nosotros y el descubrimiento podría proporcionar importantes pistas para ayudar a los astrónomos a entender el universo temprano.
