¡COMENZÓ CATCH A STAR 2008!

Una visita al moderno Observatorio Paranal de ESO, ubicado en la II Región de Chile, y viajes a centros astronómicos en Europa, son algunos de los atractivos premios que podrán ganar los escolares que participen en la edición 2008 de Catch a Star, el concurso internacional sobre astronomía organizado por ESO y la Asociación Europea para la Educación de la Astronomía.
El concurso internacional de astronomía escolar Catch a Star 2008, vuelve este año con nuevas categorías para que todos los escolares del mundo puedan participar, sin importar la edad o el idioma. Hay plazo hasta el 29 de febrero de 2008, 13:00 horas de Chile Continental, para presentar los trabajos al concurso.
El objetivo de esta competencia, organizada por ESO y la Asociación Europea para la Educación de la Astronomía, es despertar el interés por la ciencia y la astronomía a través de la investigación y el trabajo en equipo.
Se puede competir en tres diferentes categorías:
Catch a Star para Investigadores: La idea es seleccionar un objeto astronómico, como una estrella, galaxia, cometa, planeta, luna o nebulosa. Luego hay que formar un equipo y convertirse en detectives astronómicos, para descubrir todo sobre el objeto o fenómeno elegido. Finalmente hay que escribir un artículo y analizar de qué forma los grandes telescopios, como el VLT de ESO en Paranal, el proyecto ALMA o el futuro Telescopio Europeo Extremadamente Grande (E-ELT), pueden jugar un rol importante en el estudio de este tema. También se pueden incluir actividades prácticas, como observaciones o experimentos. En esta categoría los trabajos deben ser presentados en inglés, ya que serán evaluados por un jurado internacional.
Catch a Star para Aventureros: Al igual que en Catch a Star para Investigadores, hay que investigar un objeto o fenómeno astronómico, pero en este caso los trabajos pueden ser en cualquier idioma ya que los premios son otorgados por sorteo. Sólo se exige un resumen breve en inglés.
Catch a Star para Artistas: Todos pueden participar en esta categoría enviando un dibujo o una pintura sobre algún tema astronómico. Los premios serán otorgados en base a la votación del público a través de la web.
Sólo los equipos de Europa y Chile que participen en Catch a Star Investigadores, y que tengan 15 años cumplidos al 29 de febrero de 2008, podrán optar a atractivos viajes para conocer el Very Large Telescope en Paranal, y otros centros astronómicos en Austria y España. Para las demás catagorías hay cientos de atractivos premios.
