El martes 2 de julio de 2019, se producirá un eclipse total de sol sobre el Observatorio La Silla del Observatorio Europeo Austral (ESO) en Chile. Estos fenómenos poco comunes ocurren sobre una ubicación específica cada 360 años, en promedio (para mayor información, consulta la página El eclipse). Además, el Observatorio La Silla cumple 50 años desde su inauguración oficial el 25 de mayo del 1969 (más información).
Para celebrar esto, la ESO ha organizado un evento público, abriendo sus puertas a cientos de visitantes, incluidos estudiantes y personas mayores de la Región de Coquimbo, estudiantes invitados de todas las regiones, autoridades, staff de ESO y público general. Algunos grupos científicos seleccionados realizarán observaciones, además de la presencia de medios nacionales e internacionales que estarán en el sitio para cubrir el evento.
