Ministra de Ciencia de Chile visita la sede central de ESO

Hoy, Aisén Etcheverry, ministra de Ciencia, Tecnología, Conocimiento e Innovación de Chile, acompañada por Gonzalo Arenas, jefe de Relaciones Internacionales del ministerio, y María Soledad Morales, cónsul de Chile en Baviera y Baden-Württemberg, visitaron la sede central de ESO en Garching bei München, Alemania. La visita, la primera de una ministra de ciencia chilena a las instalaciones de ESO en Alemania, proporcionó una oportunidad para fortalecer aún más los lazos entre ESO y Chile. La estrecha relación de colaboración entre ESO y Chile tiene más de 60 años y ha permitido a la organización operar sus telescopios en sitios ideales de observación en el norte del país, al tiempo que genera oportunidades comerciales y contribuye al desarrollo de la astronomía chilena.
Los visitantes fueron recibidos por el director general de ESO, Xavier Barcons, y la jefa de la Oficina Ejecutiva del director general y jefa de Asuntos Legales e Institucionales de ESO, Laura Comendador Frutos. Después de una presentación inicial sobre la cadena de valor de ESO y su impacto en la sociedad por parte de Xavier Barcons, el personal de ESO ofreció presentaciones sobre temas como el desarrollo tecnológico, las oportunidades para la industria y la gestión de datos científicos en ESO. Luego, la delegación chilena pudo compartir con trabajadores de ESO, incluido el personal chileno en la sede central de ESO.
Después de las presentaciones, la ministra Etcheverry y su delegación realizaron un recorrido por las instalaciones de Garching, incluida una parada en el gran salón de Integración de ESO. Aquí es donde se preparan y prueban algunos componentes de telescopios, incluidos los del próximo Extremely Large Telescope de ESO.
El director general de ESO, Xavier Barcons, dijo: "Chile ha sido socio y Estado anfitrión de ESO durante más de 60 años, y estamos muy honrados de dar la bienvenida a la ministra Etcheverry en nuestra sede en Garching. Esta visita es una emocionante oportunidad para explorar formas de fortalecer nuestra colaboración internacional, en beneficio tanto de ESO como de Chile."
La ministra Aisén Etcheverry dijo: "Chile es conocido como la capital mundial de la astronomía, y detrás de los notables descubrimientos científicos hay mucha ingeniería, electrónica y desarrollo de tecnologías digitales a las que contribuyen numerosos chilenos y chilenas. Para profundizar en estas experiencias y preparar un futuro Industry Day, visitamos la sede de ESO en Garching para conocer de primera mano los avances tecnológicos de vanguardia que, sin duda, serán de gran interés para la industria chilena."
