ESO invita a participar en el tercer campamento de astronomía para estudiantes secundarios

El Observatorio Europeo Austral (ESO) y su Red de Difusión Científica están colaborando con la organizadora de eventos de educación científica Sterrenlab en la tercera versión del campamento de astronomía ESO, que se centrará en el Sistema Solar y los Exoplanetas. El campamento se realizará desde el 26 de diciembre, 2015, hasta el 1 de enero de 2016 en el Observatorio Astronómico de la Región Autónoma del Valle de Aosta, situado en Saint-Barthelemy, Nus, Italia. Varios socios, entre ellos ESO, ofrecerán becas que se otorgarán a los postulantes ganadores.

El campamento explorará temas relacionados con el Sistema Solar y los exoplanetas, mediante diversas sesiones astronómicas, conferencias, trabajos prácticos y observaciones nocturnas, utilizando los telescopios e instrumentos disponibles en el observatorio. Las actividades sociales, deportes de invierno y excursiones transformarán este evento en una experiencia inolvidable. ESO se encargará del programa científico del campamento de astronomía y, en conjunto con otros socios, proporcionará los conferencistas y los materiales.

Las atracciones principales del programa de este año incluyen: charlas sobre misiones planetarias y el descubrimiento del primer exoplaneta; una actividad relacionada con mediciones de distancia a un asteroide; y un viaje a la montaña Matterhorn.

La cuota de inscripción asciende a 500 euros e incluye pensión completa en el hostal de Saint Barthelemy, supervisión por parte de staff profesional, todas las actividades relacionadas con la astronomía y el tiempo libre, materiales, excursiones, transporte interno y seguros. Se proporcionará, asimismo, transporte en bus entre el observatorio y el aeropuerto Malpensa, en Milán. La cuota no incluye pasajes desde el hogar del estudiante hasta el aeropuerto Malpensa en Milán, o a Saint Barthelemy.

El campamento albergará un máximo de 56 estudiantes secundarios, entre los 16 y 18 años de edad (nacidos entre 1997-1999), provenientes de Estados Miembros de ESO y de los países pertenecientes a su Red de Difusión Científica. Habrá un número limitado de cupos para estudiantes provenientes de otros países, pero no podrán optar a las becas de ESO.

Los estudiantes que deseen inscribirse deben llenar el formulario correspondiente en el sitio web del campamento y, además, hacer llegar un video en inglés con una duración máxima de tres minutos sobre el tema “Mi objeto/fenómeno astronómico favorito”, antes del 4 de octubre de 2015. La selección de los candidatos a becas y de los otros participantes se realizará el 16 de octubre de 2015. La confirmación final de participación para los estudiantes vence el 30 de octubre de 2015. El postulante proveniente de uno de los Estados Miembros de ESO, o de algunos de los países que conforman la Red de difusión científica de ESO que presente el mejor trabajo ganará una beca ofrecida por ESO, que cubrirá el costo completo del campamento, incluyendo transporte. Varios socios nacionales también proporcionarán apoyo a los mejores candidatos residentes en sus respectivos países.
