Nuevo espectáculo para planetarios del embajador fotográfico de ESO Serge Brunier

Un proyecto fotográfico desarrollado por el fotógrafo embajador de ESO Serge Brunier, en conjunto con ESO en el año 2009, ha dado origen a un nuevo espectáculo para planetarios en formato fulldome (cúpula completa) con un campo visual de 360 grados, el que fue producido por Point Du Jour, TOTAVISION, Le Plus–Communauté Urbaine de Dunkerque y RSA Cosmos. El espectáculo llamado Le Navigateur du Ciel (El Navegante del Espacio) posee una duración de 30 minutos y está disponible en inglés y francés.
En el marco del Año Internacional de la Astronomía 2009, ESO solicitó al famoso astrofotógrafo francés Serge Brunier asumir la difícil tarea de crear una foto completa del cielo, observada tanto desde el hemisferio norte como desde el hemisferio sur. La fotografía final tiene prácticamente mil millones de pixeles y es una de las mejores y más naturales imágenes de todo el cielo alguna vez obtenida. Para lograr tan extraordinaria hazaña, Serge Brunier tuvo que viajar hasta el lugar más árido de la Tierra, el desierto de Atacama, y atravesarlo de norte a sur, así como al Pic du Midi situado en los Pirineos franceses. Esta travesía por ambos hemisferios es la fuerza que impulsa el viaje a través del Universo en el nuevo espectáculo Le Navigateur du Ciel.
Los escritores Serge Brunier y Bruno Bucher llevan a los espectadores en un viaje que inicialmente les permite observar el Universo como se percibe a simple vista, luego a través del lente de un fotógrafo y, finalmente, los acerca a regiones del cielo captadas por los potentes telescopios empleados por los astrónomos profesionales, logrando descubrir los más tenues rastros de los inmensos objetos y estructuras que conforman el cosmos, lejanos en tiempo y en espacio.
La película fue filmada con una innovadora tecnología que utiliza 11 cámaras de alta definición, desarrollada por Totavision en colaboración con Point du Jour y Planevision. Con la ayuda de este nuevo método, el film puede proyectarse sobre la cúpula del planetario con una calidad superior a la que entrega el formato Ultra HD. La película fue coproducida por la empresa RSA Cosmos, con el respaldo del centro Le Plus – Communauté Urbaine de Dunkerque y del Cité des sciences, París.
