Astroingeniería en Chile en la era del ELT: abierta la convocatoria para participar en conferencia ESO – ANID

El próximo 12 de agosto, el Observatorio Europeo Austral (ESO), en colaboración con el Gobierno de Chile, a través de la Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo (ANID), realizarán la conferencia "Desarrollo tecnológico en Chile en la era del ELT", cuyo objetivo será intercambiar ideas y presentar herramientas para impulsar proyectos chilenos de astroingeniería vinculados a tecnologías de telescopios extremadamente grandes.
Esta conferencia se enmarca en el acuerdo de cooperación científica y tecnológica entre ESO y ANID para la construcción y operación del Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) de ESO. Gracias a este acuerdo, se financiarán proyectos para el desarrollo de tecnologías relacionadas con el ELT mediante fondos concursables equivalentes, para fomentar el desarrollo de conocimiento científico y técnico altamente especializados en astroingeniería en Chile durante, al menos, la próxima década.
“Esta conferencia apoya nuestra permanente cooperación con Chile, especialmente en ciencia y tecnología. Las comunidades con intereses en el campo de la ingeniería de ESO y Chile trabajarán en torno al telescopio óptico más grande jamás construido. Además, este acuerdo tiene un enfoque importante en la Región de Antofagasta, que cuenta con los cielos más oscuros del mundo y una comunidad muy interesada en participar de este desafío llamado ELT”, dijo Itziar de Gregorio-Monsalvo, representante de ESO en Chile.
Para Alejandra Pizarro, directora nacional de ANID, "tanto la Agencia como ESO, son actores estratégicos en el campo del desarrollo astronómico, por lo que su colaboración es clave para impulsar una industria nacional en astroingeniería. La suma de sus experiencias, atributos y recursos, generan un escenario auspicioso para la creación de nuevas capacidades científico-tecnológicas”. Enfatiza que, “queremos ampliar la oferta de subsidios para estimular el mundo de la innovación y emprendimiento productivo, llegar a las escuelas de Ingeniería y Centros de Capacitación Técnica con oportunidades y desafíos para ‘creadores de soluciones’. Para ello, vamos a evaluar la pertinencia de algunos instrumentos en investigación aplicada; innovación de base científica tecnológica, ciencia asociativa y equipamiento de punta, todas oportunidades, que debieran estar disponibles desde 2026”.
El taller se realizará de forma presencial en las oficinas de ESO en Santiago. Además, se contempla la participación remota para facilitar el intercambio con todas las personas y grupos interesados a lo largo de Chile.
